On a related note, it really irks me when they 'leak' news like this. I want to find out for myself, dammit!
Yeah I don't think Adele is that beloved.
Although that could just be part of their "leak" trying to get you to think it's someone bigger when it's really just her. Especially since the article says something about it being such a sad set up or something like that. Who knows though... that's why I hate when they release spoilers like this.
"A lot of our writers were crying," Rhimes told TV Guide. "There's some really shocking, horrible moments."
Rhimes also said that "it scares me how fans are going to react."
She has said on Twitter that what goes down in the finale will be crazy. Sarah Drew, who plays April, is also very antsy to see how season 9 opens. So there is some sort of major cliff hanger.

Yeah this makes it not seem like Adele at all. Maybe it's Richard and Adele.. a la The Notebook or something.

Agreed. Richard is not one of my most favorite characters ever, but I still love him, no matter how much he screws up. The last few weeks with Adele have broken my heart. I felt so bad for him when he walked in on her in bed with Alan?
I seriously only watch this show for Patrick Dempsey. I thought I had heard he agreed to come back, and Ellen Pompeo said she would only come back if he did.
If this is true then I think it will be one of the people who are going on interviews with other hospitals.
1)This is what I was thinking this too. Which one of them, I don't know.
2) Maybe Richard because he's someone from an original cast and he's beloved. Killing him off would be shocking, but depending on how he dies I don't know how much I would cry over it.
The way they wrote about the writers, that they were crying and the reaction worried about the fans either it's a major character. Or if it is someone a little less major like Richard then it's got to be a bad way to die to make the writers to cry and fear fans responses

That's probably how it's going to end the season. But it will be a huge cliff hanger and we're not going to know who dies until next season.
No one on the show has signed new contracts yet because they don't do it til June. It really could be anyone- Mer, Der, Cristina, Alex, Bailey, Avery, Lexie. The only big news with the contracts this year is that everyone from the original cast is now up to renew contracts, but we still won't know til June who is/isn't coming back.
Dempsey and Pompeo have both said in the past that they think the world has had enough of their characters, but I think both (I know Pompeo has on several accounts, not so sure about Dempsey) have since come back and said they'd be happy to return for more seasons.
That article to me makes it sound like it may be a suicide type death. I only say that because it says she is scared about the audience's reaction. Its not like we haven't seen "beloved" characters killed before (George), so it makes me think that its a different kind of death....

Here's a crazy theory. If there is a plane crash and it takes both Derek and Meredith, who gets Zola? We know Cristina is the godmother and usually (though not always) the godmother tends to be the guardian. Could you imagine the storylines that would generate for season 9?

OH I didn't think about that. Didn't they say in the previews someone doesn't pass boards. Maybe whoever doesn't pass commits suicide? Whether that be Christina or someone else.
my money is on Richard
1) he is a beloved character, I think that adjective fits for him more than the younger cast.
2) he doesn't really have much of a storyline/role on the show anymore, especially now that he has let Adele go in a way since she can't remember him.
all the spoilers are saying cliffhanger ending, and that it will be a dramatic season finale.
since no one signs contracts til June that makes sense, they can leave the ending up in the air to wrap up once they know who is returning. So I don't think we'll know which residents are staying and which ones are moving away until the fall. Except for spoilers that leak over the summer
We WILL find out who re-ups their contracts in June so that will tell us something.

This is also what I'm thinking. Maybe Richard will turn to drinking and get in an accident or overdose or something.

I don't think it's Richard. His character is getting too interesting lately. Based on recent episodes, I think he is going to have a bigger storyline in the fall. The whole dynamic with Richard/Avery's mom could go a long way.
I also think everyone is getting too hung up on the word "beloved." That's just a description put out there by the ABC/Shonda Rimes marketing machine. It doesn't mean that we, the viewers, really agree with that description.
If I had to guess, I would say it's going to be April. She really doesn't have much of a storyline, anyway. And I think that whole "Jesus doesn't love me" line could be setting up a tragic ending. And that would leave Avery with a lot of guilt to work through. I also think that maybe she is the one who doesn't pass her boards. She was acting so out of character last night, as though they are setting her up for something "shocking."
OHH what if Owen blacks out (PTSD + new depression) and kills Christina?!
Just a thought.
