NPCER: moving boxes?

So it looks like the move is going to happen now, which is both exciting and stressful. Does anybody *not* hate moving?

Anyway, does anyone have any tips on the best place to buy moving boxes? When we moved from ATL, we got a ton of used boxes cheap from a local company but I can't seem to find anything like that here.

I am kicking myself for not saving more of the boxes we used to move here. Sigh...

Re: NPCER: moving boxes?

  • we bought all of ours at Home Depot.

you can check with your grocery store and see if they are willing to save some for you.

  • In my past moves, I would hit up the grocery stores and liquor stores for their boxes - they would give them to me free.   I would also ask my office for their empty Staples/printer paper boxes, also free.

I honestly have never bought boxes for any of my moves.

  • I have no personal experience with this company, but the last time a friend asked this question I found this website:

It's an awesome idea and they have really reasonable prices.
  • Check craigslist or freecycle.  Last time we moved I got a bunch of moving boxes for free off CL.  Also, see if there's anyone in your neighborhood who has recently moved in and offer to take their boxes as they unpack.  Also, stalk recycling days in your neighborhood and take them from the curb.

  • I've gotten boxes from my office, from liquor stores, and, in a moment of weakness, bought some from Staples.

You could check craigslist - I've seen people offering boxes for free/very low cost.

  • Craigslist. I got awesome boxes in my last move from a "gardening" center. Yeah, that's in quotes. It was for hydroponic stuff with a certain herb. They really were excellent boxes, thought, and I was tickled at the idea they'd be picked up by military movers.

  • Costco has moving box kits for $50 with an assortment of boxes, markers, tape, etc

I've also bought similar kits from Overstock for about the same price, minus the tape, markers, etc

  • We have had to move a lot and we just get free boxes or from the storage/uhaul place my DH works part time.

  • Oh! Also, starbucks. Their boxes are a really nice size. A friend was a manager who used the boxes for his own move and gave them to me, but I imagine if you go in and ask they'd set some aside for you.

  • I always got most of my boxes for free at my local liquor stores. I actually stay away from grocery stores and dumpsters because I'd be afraid of bringing bugs in with the boxes. Liquor store boxes are good because they are generally smaller and can't get too heavy, even when filled with books.

  • I'm on the hunt for boxes too. Where are you moving? (If you don't want to say that's totally cool Smile.)

  • Lowes and Home Depot sell brand new flat boxes for $.70-$1.50 each.  We just do that--they are clean and intact and easy to transport.
Can't find me on the nest anymore.

    Find me here instead!
  • Copy paper boxes from my office were really great to use.

Try Craig's list, grocery stores, furniture stores etc.
