Pre

Since you said you and your H grew up in Orange County, Ames and I would like to know if you know Lauren Conrad.

More importantly, I would like to know if you know Brody Jenner.

TIA!

  • Nope, I dont know either. They are quite a bit younger than me, and even though I do work in Laguna Beach I never even saw them filming, although I heard they could be seen around town from time to time (during filming of Laguna Beach.) I have met a couple of people who have had random appearances on the show, but no one important.

I have honestly never seen one episode of the Hills or Laguna Beach, and after the show The OC was popular I know many people  including myself were turned off by shows about our county, because it painted an inaccurate picture. I wish everyone, including myself, could live as carefree and clueless as they seem to on those shows!

I <3 you Ames.  I just choked on my avocado laughing at this photo.

  • I love you too, C!

Pre - damn. I was hoping that you perhaps knew Brody, and perhaps had met a Kardashian or two through him, and thus could confirm their plasticity.

Lol, does anyone have to have met them to confirm that?

  • I assumed that you would say that Orange County is nothing like it was portrayed on the shows but I had to ask!

Yes. In my opinion it is portrayed as being full of conceited, wealthy, ignorant people. Don't get me wrong, we do have some people like that here. But they are in the minority. Newport Beach and Laguna Beach and some small areas of other cities have very wealthy people in them, who probably act like the people in all of the "reality" shows. However, most of us are normal hard working people. The majority of OC is middle class, and many are not even able to claim that. Most of the county is your average American suburb, albeit in California which I am sure brings with it its own characteristics.

Overall I think these shows give us a bad name!

  • I think most people feel like that when there are shows about their town, or state (Jersey) or profession. Most producers feel like its not good tv if you just show the middle class hard working people.

  • That's so true. I felt that way about The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole. Y'all remember that show? It was definitely not an accurate portrayal of AR.

These shows were first starting up when I was going to school at Long Beach. I remember a lot of my native Orange County friends being really pissed about the depiction (except, as you said, for Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, cuz...ya..they be crazy rich up there). Having lived in Westminster, which is just minutes from all the lovely little cities that help make up OC like Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, and one of my favorites, Garden Grove, indeed most of the county IS NOT like it is on the shows and most "stars" wouldn't be caught dead outside the Beach zones.

And of course, now this has made me nostalgic for So.Cal, sigh.
