What would you wear for 1/2 marathon?

My 2nd 1/2 is this Saturday (5k on Friday night, but not worried about that). The forecast is looking less than stellar right now.

45 degrees F, 75% humidity, cloudy, 15mph winds. Thunderstorms a possibility, but hoping to be done with the race before they actually hit.

Typically I would wear a tank top, running skirt and headband. Is this a case where I should do a hat just in case? Keep the skirt or do capris instead? Tank top w/ a jacket?

The course info doesn't say anything about throw away clothing, but should I consider that route instead? I warm up rather quickly and i'm actually ok with being cold at the start. I just don't want to be freezing if/when the rain/wind hits while running.

ugh. My outfit was the ONE thing I was super confident about. lol.

Re: What would you wear for 1/2 marathon?

  • I would go with capris and a long sleeved shirt, and even then bring a jacket and decide at the last minute whether to wear it or not. 45 degrees is cold - especially if it is raining!

My home office. Joeyzlovieg's hubby made it for me. I love it!
  • I'd probably wear a brimmed hat in case it started raining.

  • shorts or capris, l/s top, tank or s/s top under the l/s (so you can remove the l/s when you get warm) and a hat to keep the rain water out of my eyes.

  • Shorts or capris, tee with long sleeve/ light jacket on top, maybe headband ear warmers, throw away gloves. A hat sound like a good idea if it's raining. My last half was pretty chilly at the start (low 50's) and I still took my long sleeve off at mile 5-6 and just tied it around my waist. As long as my hands and ears are warm, I'm good!

  • this is all very helpful, thank you. I guess I'll just prepare for the worst and go with it! (and do lots of hoping and praying before Saturday that at least the raind disappears from the forecast).

45* is shorts weather here! :)

For my 1/2 on Sunday, it was 37* and cloudy at the start, then got windy but sunny. While running, I was more than fine in shorts, tank, and l/s shirt with a baseball cap. Afterward, I wished I had long pants and a winter coat. :p

Happy medium might be capris, tank, l/s or jacket, and hat with brim.

  • Maybe I get warmer than most, but that is definitely shorts (or skirt) weather to me.

During my half in March it was 40 degrees with 90% humidity and I was perfect in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I might wear a hat if you normally wear one when it rains though.

  • Capris and a ss shirt with a throw away top or sweatshirt.  I usually run in skirts, but under 50, I go with capris.  I did a race over the weekend with the exact same conditions.  Most people wore ls shirts.

  • Definitely wear a cap with a brim in case it rains - look for a running hat, not a heavy cotton baseball cap.  I'd probably wear capris, a tank and a light weight jacket or shirt.  45 degrees is pretty chilly, especially if you get soaked.

    GL!
