If you take Xanex, questions
Hey,
So I know my mom takes Xanex, and thought I might need it too at one point - but I am not the med for mind kind of person, no judgement just not my thing.
How common is Xanex for proper use? When and why do you take it?
I am taking to a potential date online - we have been emailing for almost a week and the other day he mentioned taking a Xanex before a presentation. I want to ask about this to get rid of any red flags but am not sure if I should ask before we go out next week or wait.

I don't see this as a big thing at all. The people I know who take Xanex use it to overcome situations where they have extreme anxiety. Most frequently it seems to be for flying. But I could definitely see how it would be helpful for people with a fear of public speaking as well.
I think of Xanex fairly casually actually and seeing as it's just to deal with anxiety don't really view it as a red flag at all. Honestly I think it would be weird and awkward if you brought it up now. I think this is one of those best in the moment situations. I'd go on the date and see how it goes. If things go well and start progressing past a few dates to something more serious, then bring it up.
I take Xanax, and, taken properly, it's pretty harmless and very effective ... that said, it is highly addictive and really easy to abuse. I take it for anxiety (usually related to dealing with two adolescent sons), so probably similar to online date guy, however, I'd never take it before a presentation because it puts me to sleep.
When my doctor first prescribed it for me she described it as a cocktail in pill form. I probably don't take it more often than once every two weeks, but it's very situation-specific.
I wouldn't dump the guy over this, but I would certainly have my radar tuned to signs of misuse.
