On the local news this morning there was a story about how the Martin family wants George Zimmerman's bail revoked because it was so low - $150,000. Apparently his web site earned him a whopping $200,000 in donations for his defense fund and this was unknown at the time of his bail hearing.
So, like I'm five - why is $150,000 too low?
Slainte!

Re: Like I'm 5 - Bail
Unless he was given a cash bond he probably only had to post 10%. $15k on a murder rap is chump change.
I don't know what kind of a bond he was given
wikipedia wasn't much help either. I guess I just don't completely understand bail. So by paying a sum of money people are saying they will appear in court at appointed times, etc. If they do not, they lose the money and a warrent is issued for arrest. Do they get the money back if they do appear? Hence the bail bond person gets the money they paid out back. What's it is for the bail bond person / entity - do they charge interest or something?
ETA: Wikipedia says the bail bond person charges 10 - 15% fee.

Yep, it's a profitable business.
Who knew I'd get a reading recommendation when asking about bail!
