Plantar Fasciitis

I have diagnosed myself (along with WebMd) as having this problem in one of my feet. Anyone have any experience with this? I guess I need to go see a doctor- do I go to my PCP, orthopedist or a podiatrist?

Re: Plantar Fasciitis

  • I "self diagnosed" as well a few years ago. I never saw a doctor but I think it's definitely a good idea.  My favorite self-remedy?  Freeze a bottle of water and roll that sucker under your foot.  It felt great!  I would do that daily.  Other than that, I just had to rest.  That really, really hurts.  I'm sorry :(

I ditto this.  This worked wonders for me.  I too never saw a doctor.  I'm now more careful on the types of shoes I buy.....that is really what caused my flair up the last time.

  • I would suggest seeing a podiatrist to get an official diagnosis.  They can also suggest stretches, PT, and other remedies (such as orthotics) that will keep the problem from getting worse and improve the amount of pain/discomfort you're feeling.

Exactly this. I saw a podiatrist as mine got so bad I was on crutches. I got custom orthotics that I wear in my work shoes and "errand shoes" and it's taken care of the problem for me. I don't wear them when I run. I wear SuperFeet arch support inserts for running.
