  • I forsee a massive exodus from the dept. :oD Although, I'd have to win more than 2 mill to leave my job.
A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

    Wednesday's jackpot was $170m

there are quite a few of them.  off the top of my head i know 8.  so after lump sum payment and taxes, $2 million each wouldn't be too far off, especially if there were other winners.

that's what i was saying, but a bunch of them are near or at retirement age anyway and were just staying for their pensions.  if they've hit pension age i can think of at least 3 that are out.  which means we're screwed because new buyers never know what the hell they're doing.

  • For most people in HCOL area $2M before taxes is probably not enough for the breadwinner to walk out over, but I always wondered what happened with those lotto pools since they are generally within departments. With my old job there would have been nobody to do the quarterly financials. I'm sure the people who have to pick up the pieces would be pretty ticked off.

  • Apparently there was one lady that also always plays with the group that won but on the day of the winning ticket she didn't have money so she decided not to play. So it's 48 winners instead of the typical 49 that have been playing together for awhile.
  • Wow! what a neat thing.

  • I like it when these massive jackpots end up going to a lot of people.  $2mill may not be enough to leave my job, but it would enhance our lives immensly. I'd rather enhance a lot of people, than have one person be obnoxiously rich.

    OMG that is awful.

If I won $2 million now, I wouldn't retire. But if these people are right around retirement age, I think $2 million would be enough to live on including whatever their benefits and pensions and other retirement savings gives them. Well, unless they've got serious debt.

My whole company participates, give or take, and out of about 20 employees, we usually have 10-14 who put in money. I can only think of a few who would leave with a few million, though. Many are breadwinners, have kids, etc. I think most would pay off their house and use it for their kids' college and retirement. But yeah, HCOL. There are a few really young employees (early 20s) who would probably blow it on sports cars and/or quit, thinking it was a HUGE amount of money. But since the average American has 2 million+ come through their hands over a working lifetime, it's really the equivalent of making like $40k/year during your working life.

  • It's been the leading news story for the past two days. The group opted for the lump sum, but none of the winners have identified themselves publicly. I don't blame them.

  • This kinda chaps my ass because it combines two things I hate: old people and SEPTA. So, you know, boo.

I wouldn't retire, but I sure asshit wouldn't stick around this hellhole.

I'd quit, pay off my SLs, and then figure out what I want to do.

omg, that would be the worst. This is why I always make sure DH has cash on him when the Powerball/Mega Millions gets high. You do not want to end up as the one guy who wasn't in the pool.

  • That Tumblr is awesome! The dog poop one is my favorite because that used to drive me insane when I lived in the city.
