Dallas/Arlington Recommendations

DH and I are going on vacation during the first week of July(5 days total). We are going to be spending a day or two going to Six Flags/Hurricane Harbor, but wanted some recommendations for the rest of our days!

I was thinking of the aquarium, but not too sure what else to do. We're not really big bar people, but I do enjoy shopping. Any ideas what else to do?

Re: Dallas/Arlington Recommendations

  • You can go to a Rangers Baseball game, if they arent playing you can still go to the stadium, they have a resturant that is fun to eat at (it overlooks the field). You can also take a tour of the Cowboys new stadium.

I would go to Fort Worth (its about 30 mins or so from Arlington) and visit the Stockyards, go to Billy Bobs (look up their concert schedule they have good concerts there that are cheap. They also have rodeos on Friday night. In the Stockyards you will get the really Texas feel. Eat at Cattlemens if you want a good steak.

In Dallas you can visit the School Book Depository for the JFK museum. Go up in the Reunion tower, if you liked the tv show Dallas you can go visit the Ranch where they did some of the filming.

For outlet shopping go to Grapevine Mills in Grapevine, while there you can visit the Gaylord Opryland hotel.

I lived in Fort Worth for 2 years so I can think of some more stuff but this will get you started! Let me know if you have any specfic questions.

Should have said we're not big sporty people either, but the Stockyard stuff sounds really interesting. Might look into that.

Also, we read about the Medieval Times Dinner 7 Tournament. Do you have any word on that? Yes, that gives it away. We're totally geeks :)

  • The Dallas Arboretum is really pretty.
  • JFK Museum is cool and interesting if you like History.

The Aquarium in DT Dallas is really nice. But the Zoo in Fort worth is way better than the Dallas Zoo.

It will be really hot during this time.

  • If you are going to be there on July first there is also Canton. http://www.firstmondaycanton.com/

It really is one of the best fle market/shopping excursions in DFW.

  • Also, I would not waste my time going to see the Dallas house. Been there done that and let me just say what a freaking waste of time. It is MUCH smaller in real life. :)
  • I grew up in Dallas and went to Medieval Times when I was in high school.  It's a good time, but it's a chain.  That said, in July in Texas, you might be looking for something to do inside.
  • Geeks, eh?  If you are here on a weekday, visit the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in North Fort Worth (http://moneyfactory.gov/tours/fortworthtxtours.html)  Tours are free, but check the website on exactly what you can't bring.  You could compliment the day with a visit to the FW Museum of Science and History (http://www.fwmuseum.org/)  It's about a half day of entertainment for adults.  Then spend the evening in downtown Fort Worth and the Stockyards.  I second the FW zoo.

Also, spend the whole day at Six Flags.  The lines will be long, so it might take a bit to hit every coaster.  Spread out the water rides so you keep cool.  Hit HH on a separate day.
