My husband and I are going to Guatemala for 12 days in June/July. I actually used to live there, so our first stop will be the mountain town where I spent five years. We'll also be going to Tikal and Antigua while we're there. I have been to both places, but it has been a while and I was there as a single woman who wasn't too picky about accommodations. Now that I'm married, I am more interested in decent places that would be good for us as a couple.
Have any of you ever been to either of these places? Do you have any recommendations for hotels/lodging? We're actually thinking of staying in the park at Tikal for one night, so any suggestions there would be welcomed.
TIA!
Re: Guatemala!!!
I can't recommend our hotel in Antigua from my trip in 2009 (I don't recall what it was, but it as terrible), but I just wanted to say how fun! I'm jealous!

We started our honeymoon in Guatemala (summer 2009) and LOVED it. We stayed at Panza Verde in Antigua and would highly recommend it:

We didn't stay at the park in TIkal-stayed at La Lancha closer to FLores.
In Antigua we stayed at Meson Panza verde. Its a small place, but really charming and cute.
We just did a day trip from San Ignacio, Belize when we went, but next time I really want to stay at La Lancha. When we were in Belize our car broke down at the top of Mountain Pine Ridge, and we were taken to Blancaneaux Lodge (another Coppola resort) to await our rescue. It just seemed so heavenly (might have been partly due to our circumstances at the time) that I really want to go back and stay at all the Coppola resorts, including La Lancha.
Thanks for the rec's, ladies.
And jennbean, your siggy pic is hilarious! Love it!
Oh we also stayed at La Lancha. We loved the service, the atmosphere, and the food but found some of their prices (for transfers, tours, etc.) to be absolutely insane. We booked our own taxi/Tikal tour, etc.
The other thing that was slightly obnoxious was that it was supposed to be adults only. The only other people there while we were was a family- grandpa, mom, 10 year old boy. We wouldn't have minded except they put them in the same casita with us- sharing a wall. We were on our HM, the kid was noisy, and there were lots of other options- why make us share?
