Lace Front Wigs

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if anyone have had a lace fron wigs, and what do you think about them? The pros and cons?

Thank you,

Re: Lace Front Wigs

  • I am solely a lurker on this board, but I'm going to chime in about this topic. I started chemo last week, so I recently bought a wig. I knew that I wanted a lace front wig because you see your own skin through it so it looks more natural. In fact, I picked an all lace wig. You didn't mention why you are (presumably) buying a wig, if you plan to wear it every day or long-term you will probably want a more fancy one than if it is just to change up your hairstyle for fun.

I looked at a fair number of wigs before choosing to have one made for me. I ended up going with an all lace, single-hair hand knotted wig. It has bleached knots and a hairline identical to mine. One of the big pros for me is that I almost always wear my hair in a pony tail and this was the only wig I was able to find that allowed me to pull my hair up. Another feature that I liked is that it can be parted anywhere. Many wigs on the market come parted a certain way and have to stay that way. This just seemed much more natural and realistic to me.

All of that said, when it is hot this summer and I have the option of no hair or wearing a wig, I wonder if I'll throw in the towel on pretending that I have hair? A wig sounds pretty hot to me.

Thanks LTP. I'll be ok in a few months. Sadly, I think my hair will take years to be the same again. Now that I know that I will (most likely) be ok, my hair is the most upsetting part of all. Funny how much perspective can shift.

  • Brit, I haven't seen you before on here as a result of the lurkdom I'm sure.  I just took a moment to read up on your blog a bit and get your story.  Wow, I just have to tell you how inspiring you are. Truly a tough girl with an amazing outlook on things.  I can't imagine going through what you are with a newborn at home. I have two little ones of my own and work full time and I am truly in awe of your strength.  What a great attitude, we could all take a lesson from your book :)

All of that said, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to part with something like your hair, something that can define women and make them feel like who they are. I don't know how you feel about pixie cuts and sassy short styles as it grows out but with your beautiful face, I think you would look FIERCE!

Just wanted to say, my daughter, now 29, was diagnosed with Hodgkins in 2000, her senior year of high school. In 2001, she was in remission and has been in remission since. She is now officially cured and  has 3 children.

So good luck to you in your journey.

Aww, thank you, that was such a kind response. I'm just doing my thing. I mean I can't just stop, right?

That's great to hear about your daughter! I hope that I can say the same thing down the road.

  • Thank you for responding. I am so sorry, I pray that down the road you will be able to say the same thing. My nephew has cancer he is in remission now. He lost his hair and it grew back just as full as before, it grew rather fast also. I hope the same with you. Again I am sorry.
  • Thinking and praying for you, Brit!
  • Brit - I had NO idea! I'm so sorry to hear you aren't well! You'll be in my thoughts!

OP - I wear a wig (I have alopecia.) I do not wear a lace front wig. My wigs all have bangs in the front. Took a while to get used to, but honestly, I find it more natural looking than the lace front wigs. My wigs are all made by hand and I was told by my wig maker that the lace front wigs don't last as long/hold up as well. FWIW, I have 2 natural hair wigs (all made from virgin hair) and 2 synthetic wigs (for working out/running.) I'd be glad to answer any questions you have.
