Distressing Furniture

Hello all! This is my first time posting on TN and I'm told that you guys would be a great resource for this. I would like to refinish/distress a shabby old dresser. I've never done this before and while I can find some tutorials on pinterest, I would really like to hear from someone who has done it. What steps did you go through and how did you do it? Any advice or tips? I want to go for a shabby chic look vs paint chip, if that helps. Thanks!

Re: Distressing Furniture

  • Look up Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  It's pricey but supposed to be very good for distressing and you don't need to sand or prime!  I haven't tried it yet but am thinking about pulling the trigger.  An antique shop owner in my town uses it a lot and raves about it.

(It costs about $40/quart but is said to last quite some time and go a long way.)
