Shipping

Ok ladies do you really think it costs 10 bucks to ship one shirt or one pair of capris?

So annoying. Why don't they just charge what it cost to ship? Which would more than likely be 3 or 4 dollars if they used the appropriate method of shipping. SIGHS.

First world problem of the day.

LOL

ETA: do you think I could have said shipping/ship ONE MORE TIME? LOL

Re: Shipping

  • Don't they charge businesses more? What kind of shipping is it? (3 day, etc)
  • The company I used to work for used to upcharge for shipping and it was SUCH a beef of the sales team (which I was on). We hated that policy.

The shipping manager said it was to cover the employees time packing the boxes and processing the shipping, which is why it's shipping & handling - not just shipping, but it drove us bonkers. We got a HUGE discount for shipping, but we'd charge the retail shipping cost plus handling...ridiculous.

I would think the employee cost and what not would fall under "cost of goods sold", but it seems everyone now a days will move any expense they have to the customer. (Which is also why places are now charging fees for using debit/credit cards, but that's a whole other complaint for another day!).

In my experience they charge businesses less. Way less. Our corporate discount was insane at my past job because we shipped so much and the big carriers fight for those big shipment accounts.

The company I'm at now doesn't really get a discount since we ship so little.

  • I'm not sure of businesses and such.

This was for the brown capris I was looking for and someone found at Macy's but the shipping was 9.95. Seems ridiculous to me. And all it said was shipping, did not say shipping and handling! WTH? Then I saw a really cute shirt at Loft and same thing, 10 bucks to ship. Also in the past, I've gotten one item shipped to me in a HUGE box with bubble wrap. For a shirt? Stick it in a brown clasp folder and call it a day, won't you?

    LOL

I'm just venting, it's been a long week and it's almost 5:00! WHEWWW!

  • I ordered three things from Gap the other day and I got three separate packages shipped from 3 separate places. I'm silver so it was free shipping, but maybe they're trying to make up for their ineffencies. Who knows, but I'm with you girl! I once got a nail polish from Target in a box so large it wouldn't fit in my mailbox. 1 single polish.

  • Loft and Macy's are my least favorite places to shop online because their shipping is so ridiculous.  Plus, to qualify for free you have to spend at least $100-125!  I don't typically drop that kind of money for online shopping for one order!  I've complained to both companies and all I got from Macy's one time was to cut the shipping in half.
  • Figures the 2 places I tried to order from are the two highest in shipping! Makes NO sense.

And Kare that nail polish story is EXACTLY the thing I'm talking about! I just don't get it.

Oh well, it's almost the weekend so that makes up for it! LOL

  • I agree, it's very annoying.  I rarely buy online if I have to pay unreasonable shipping costs.
  • Me either Happywife, so obviously they make $$ if they are reasonable about shipping and the places with FREE shipping I order there ALL.THE.TIME.

So their loss, i guess. Well and mine, ha!!
