Allergies

OMG! Now, I know that I have year-round allergies, but my doc said that my issues this week (ears, throat, post nasal drip, congestion) was pretty much ear infection and allergies. I'm really hoping that I also had a cold thrown in there, I've never been home from work due to allergies and I've been out more than one day this week with it. Anyone else going through this in the Northeast, or am I doomed for a long allergy season suffering alone? I'm resorting to alleve cold & sinus for night time to clear my head so that I can sleep, and I guess I'm at that age....last night I was up from 1-2:30 not able to sleep attributing to the decongestants......tonight I try my netti-pot (first time) with high hopes of success!  Just needed to vent my pity-party!

Re: Allergies

  • Boo. Allergies suck and I'm sorry you're suffering. I'm in ATL and the crazy allergy time is over, but I have year-round allergies (including being allergic to my pets). I take Claritin daily (generic Costco kind) and Nasonex when things are really active. And Aleve Cold & Sinus when I'm really stuffed or have a wicked sinus headache.

I also use the Neil-Med sinus rinse (squeeze bottle), instead of the neti pot (less weird head-tilt-action required). (I think, btw, that you shouldn't nasal rinse right before bed, but like an hour before -- so the liquid isn't lingering if you lay down.)

GL and hope you fell better!

  • Allergies suck, I'm sorry. I live in NY and I think this is going to be a terrible season for allergy sufferers. I am living on Claritan D and a netty pot. No advice, but just some sympathy.

  • I'm also in NY and I am suffering something terrible this year.  Last year too.  The tickley throat is what's really killer this time.  I find that Zyrtec at night helps quite a bit.
