I have met quite a few kids named Talon around 4-5 years old. I think it's like in the 400s for popularity in the US. Guess I don't think it's weird.

Really?? To me it sounds like something a 10 year old boy would want to name a baby.
Of two that I know/met the parents, they are middle-class/middle-upper-class, 30-something parents. I guess it's just more common sounding in my group IRL, so it doesn't surprise me.
