Louisville recs

We're headed there this weekend as DH will run the marathon.  We'll have our two young kids with us. Suggestions needed for dinner Friday (pasta/steak/kid friendly) as well as ideas for us on Saturday afternoon.  Thanks!

Re: Louisville recs

  • I Live here! Ok so these are some of my favorites.... Texas Roadhouse, Olive garden, Cheddars. Then on 4th street which is kid friendly before 9pm- TGI Fridays, Makers mark, The pub. Lucky Strike Bowling. This is all at 4th street Live. Not sure exactly what part of town you will be in but 4th street is downtown. Parking is free in the garage. Hope this helps
  • The Frazier History Museum can be kind of neat.  It has a lot of weapons and armor.

The Zoo there is also pretty nice.  It is on the smaller side, but most of the exhibits allow for decent views of the animals.

  • You definitely want to try some local restaurants while you are in Louisville, as that is what it's known for. Some pasta/pizza type places are Cafe Lou Lou, Coal's Pizza, and the Old Spaghetti Factory (not local but neat for the kids). If you have time for breakfast/brunch, Lynn's Paradise Cafe is a good choice. It is fun and kitschy, toys on the tables/gift shop/etc. It gets really crowded, but they take reservations. I've never been for lunch, but that might be a good option as well. There are a lot of derby festival events going on this weekend. There will be a hot air balloon race on Saturday, and possibly some other events on the waterfront. You can probably google Kentucky derby festival for more info. The zoo is also nice. Hope that helps!
  • Yes, definitely try some of our local places.

    My suggestions are:

    Ditto's Grill (Bardstown Rd.)

Coal's Pizza (brick oven style on Frankfort Avenue)

    Harvest (East Market Street)

    Taco Punk (East Market Street)

Yangkee Noodle (Oxmoor Mall - our best & nicest mall)

All of these places serve healthy & good quality food! Louisville has some great places to eat so I'd stay away from the typical places (olive garden, etc.)

I'd stay away from 4th street with your two children. During the day might be okay, but at night it's full of party-ers.

Oh! Lynn's Paradise Cafe is also great, like the PP stated.
