Running of the Bulls?
Anyone ever been o Pamplona, Spain during the festival? Planning to be in Europe while it's going on and wondering if we she make a trip there just to experience the Running. Is it way too crowded? Really expensive? Hard to find places to stay? Or totally worth it??

Going during the running and actually running with them are two very different things.
I think it would be neat to go, but I have no idea of the logistics of it (prices, crowds) and would not be surprised if hotels are booked up more than a year in advance.

Hey. I was there in high school living with a family.
It's crazy. Wear old shoes and expect to get stuff dumped on you. The locals dress in San Fermin colors...all white with a red scarf around the neck. It's very crowded. Also, culturally it is frowned upon for women to run with the bulls. And, to answer a PP, yes people usually get hurt or die each year. There is a bull fight every day of that week. I'd recommend seeing one. Not sure about prices or places to stay since I was living with a family. It is a week long party and it beats out Mardi Gras. Fireworks are amazing - the best I've ever seen in my life.
I was staying in France and we drove in. Hotels are nearly impossible to get at this point. We drove down in the evening, stayed up all night, watched the running (it is early, 8-9am ish?) and then drove back to France.
It's insane. Everything is SO DIRTY and people are peeing and pooping and barfing everywhere. There are not many accessible bathrooms and it's too crowded to get to them. It's really nasty.
I saw some crazy stuff.
It was an experience to remember for sure, as a 20 year old. As a 30 year old, I'd definitely not go unless I could get a hotel right there in the middle of things but I hear that they book up a year in advance!
We're going this year and it was close to impossible to reserve a place in February. I spent about 2 weeks straight calling everywhere around and lucked out that there was a cancellation at a place where I had chatted for a while with the desk clerk.
If you really plan on going, figure out your lodging asap.
DH went when we first met and were studying abroad in Germany.
He went with his friends and drove from Germany to Spain. They slept in the car because everything was booked up. He also got robbed when he was sleeping in a park. He didn't run with the bulls, only watched the running.
This might be a fun alternative.
Festival/party season in Spain is amazing. Just about every single town has at least a full day, if not a week, of partying. Haro is a cool little city, and you could easily check out Logro?o, and my personal favorite, Laguardia - both are close by.
I don't really get the Running of the Bulls. I know San Fermines are the most famous, but there's bull runs scattered throughout the country on other days.
