I am a bigger girl (size 16) and I havent worn a dress for years because most dresses made me look pregnant or I just wasn't comfortable in them. I haven't owned a bathing suit since high school, and I have not worn shorts since high school either.
I've been reading/posting here and following a bunch of fashion blogs. I basically live in ill fitting, baggy jeans and t shirts and cardigans.
Today I went shopping and I bought a pair of bermuda shorts, and a dress! I was so proud of myself for trying things on that I would usually not even look at, and shocked that I found things that were actually flattering!
The dress I bought is just a casual shirtdress, in black. Any inspiration for styling it? Anyone have photos of themselves wearing a shirtdress that I can look at? I am learning that i am hopeless at putting together outfits but having a photo to "follow" makes me actually successful!
Thank you girls for being such a friendly board and inspiring me to dare to try some new things on.
Re: Bought my first dress in probably 8 years!
Good for you!! I guarantee you that a nice fitting dress looks more flattering than baggy jeans and t shirts!
I'm a size 18/20 and know it can be tough to find flattering things that are flattering and don't look like a grandma.
And GIRL, you've got to get yourself a bathing suit!!! I'm even bigger than you, and am not going to let that keep me from enjoying the beach or pool!!! I like this website for swimsuits. http://www.alwaysforme.com/swimplussiz.html I have this suit in the pink color and feel great in it. http://www.alwaysforme.com/tankini-plus-size-swimsuit-80913wa.html
haha, I can't even wear a sleeveless top, so a bathing suit is a long way away. I have to have sleeves because I freak out about my huge arms.
OMG, that's so major! I'm really proud of you for breaking out of your fashion rut!
Frumpy has an awful way of creeping in when we give up or let our guard down. I'm so glad you embraced your inner fabulousity! Don't ever give up on style.
BTW, these beautiful, bare-armed women are clinically obese:
I don't wear sleeveless tops, either. I guess I just love to swim so much that I can't imagine not wearing a bathing suit.
