What shoes to wear?

I just purchased a pale yellow/beige dress for an interview.

It's a business casual interview but I don't want to look like a total slob. I don't want to buy new shoes because well, I am being a little cheap and have some really nice shoes already. The problem is, I do not have any beige, yellow, tan shoes which I know are easy to match with. My options are black patent leather, silver glitter slingback peeptoes (hard to walk in though and maybe too dressy), red patent leather, and a pair of brown not as cute as other options mary jane type. Here are the two front runners: in red or in black

  • Here is the dress...

  • I think the red is too sexy for an interview.  The bow is too frou-frou.

I think the black is perfect, low heel, conservative bow, etc.

  • i would never wear that dress for an interview, but with the options, i'd wear the black shoes, and maybe some tasteful black earrings to balance it out. or a black cardigan.

Again, business casual at a high tech company. I was told not to dress up. Having interviewed candidates for 7 years, it's really uncomfortable when someone shows up in a suit while everyone else is wearing jeans with holes in their tshirts.

I used to work in a very casual environment, and I understand where you are coming from.  We would literally tell people "please wear jeans and sneakers" and they would still show up in heels and skirts.

  • I would go with the black as well.  If they say not to dress up I think you are correct in not wearing a suit.  You don't want them to think you ignored their recommendation.  Good luck!
