Stolen from D and R: Walk score
http://www.walkscore.com
It works internationally!
Where I live got a score of 98. I walk everywhere, I don't really have a choice though as I don't drive.
Re: Stolen from D and R: Walk score
:-( It's not supported yet in Germany. It gave me a score of 68 but said it can't ensure it's accurate. I walk everywhere, though, or ride the bus if I'm feeling lazy since DH has our car at work all day.
Is it supposed to be the closeness of things in the area? So the walking potential without having to resort to a car? How do they judge public transportation?
I think it has a scale for public transport, maybe just in the US for now?
It didn't give me a score for public transport for here, where I lived in Vietnam (walk score of 40) or for where my parents live in Canada (15).

I got a 0.
Which is 100% accurate because I live in a rural area. The nearest store is five miles away.
"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." -Isaiah 61:10 NKJV
Mine was a 78, but it's also not supported in the UK. For example, it doesn't have transit loaded at all.
I don't own a car here and walk, tube, train or bus 99% of the places I need to go.
I got a 89 for my address in Chicago. Our old address in Zurich gave me a 53. That was my one complaint about where we lived in Zurich there wasn't anywhere close we could walk to for groceries. But the tram was really close by at least.
Where we are now I could walk to just about everything. But I don't really. I run my errands on the way home from school. But we walk to the restaurants/bars.

Where I live now got a 92, which I think is pretty accurate. Everything is centrally located and a fairly easy walk from most everywhere in the city.
Where I lived in the US got a 58 which is crap as the closest grocery is 4-5 miles away and there is no public transportation to speak of. Just because there is a convenience store called "Jake's Grocery" doesn't mean it's an actual grocery.
Where I worked got a 91, which is true, it was easy to walk everywhere, but it was a business district and there were only office buildings and courthouses to walk to, as far as livability walking, the score should be much, much lower.
Where I live got a 77, the big "city" down the mountain got a 98. Where I live is walkable but everything is open only between 10 & 3:30, so after 3:30 you have to drive down the mountain if you need anything.
Where I lived in the states got a 30
Where I was in France only got an 83 but I think it should have been MUCH higher. I didn't have a car and we did just fine.
