Eastern European/Greek Isles Cruise?

Hello gals, longtime lurker and first time poster. My DH and I are considering a Eastern European cruise.  We have been eyeing Royal Caribbean's options. Anyone ever been on....

Royal Caribbean's 7 day cruise from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Messina (Sicily), Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey; Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Chania (Souda),  and Crete, Greece on the Navigator of the Sea

OR

Royal Caribbean's 7 day cruise from Bari, Italy to Corfu, Greece; Santorini, Greece; Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey; Katakolon, Greece; Venice, Italy on the Splendour of the Sea

Also, I'm not familiar with these port of calls.  I'll take any advice about these ports/cities.

 Thanks!

Re: Eastern European/Greek Isles Cruise?

  • DH and I leave on RCL Navigator on the RT Rome cruise in September and are way excited.  We are cruising and then staying an additional 3 days in Rone before heading back to the US.  I was overwhelmed at first but we are at the point where we take one city a weekend, explore and decide what we are going to do.  Unfortunately with DH's travel schedule this ddoes not happen every weekend,  but we try :) .

Sorry not much help but we are excited about our trip.  FYI, RCL was offering some great deals recently (we got a balcony cabin for less than $1K each).

  • I haven't been on either RC cruise; however, I've been to all the ports except Katakolon, GR.

Tough call, but I'd probably go with the 1st itinerary b/c I'd want to see Athens (and, having been both as a port stop and regular air (i.e. staying a few nights) I think a port stop is enough time to get the highlights).

Bari, Corfu, and Santorini are all lovely, but they're all beach all the time (not a whole lot else to see or do).  That's totally cool, but personally for me, the 'at sea' days are enough "beach" time and I like to also have some city time on the port calls.

  • H and I took a Greek islands cruise for our honeymoon and loved it! We left from Athens and cruised to Mykonos, Santorini, Turkey, Patmos, and I think there might have been one more in there..anyway, we loved it. We went through Louis cruise line. The ship and service itself wasn't the best we have experienced, but we didn't really have anything to complain about either. We really enjoyed it overall. Athens port was a long wait to board..I'm not sure if that's normal there, but it did seem to take forever. Other than that everythig was easy there.

  • We were really happy with Norwegian's Mediterranean cruises.  Have you consider ones that stop in Egypt?

Princess has a handful of 12 day cruises that do Italy, Greece, Egypt, and Turkey.

Holland America has similar cruises for 10 days.
