I hate 5k's...HATE them. I have serious respect for the women on here who run them frequently and who can run them fast. This is more of an AW for the fact that I'm making myself get out there and tackle the shorter races. I'm recognizing the fact that tackling all distances will make me a more well rounded runner and even though they're not my favorite, I'm going to try to run more of them.
Anyway, I've run 3 marathons & a handful of halves, but yesterday was only my 2nd 5k. I know....that's ridiculous. It was a small race (only 200 participants) but I ran 23:28, down almost 1 1/2 minutes from my first 5k last October and got 1st place in my age group. Not super speedy by any means, but it's cool to see my paces improving. It really doesn't seem like that long ago that my long run paces were in the 10's and my short run paces were in the 9's. Now, my paces are 7's and 8's. Most improtantly, I actually had fun.
I still have a ways to go and bigger goals to tackle, but I'm happy that I'm getting better at not letting the shorter races/faster paces intimidate me anymore.

I hear you though, I hate 5ks too. I've done a ton of them, just b/c they're cheap and they're the most common race distance, but I don't like them. For me it's just pure pain for a little under a half hour. Yippee.
Lol. Exactly! The positive that I'm trying to focus on is that there seems to be some pacing lessons to learn with them. I'm trying to learn to like them.
Thanks, everyone! It really is a lot of fun to see the progress!!
