Do you wash your hair everyday?

I recently had my hair cut and colored for the first time in almost five years (it was long overdue). I work out six days a week but would love to go every other day with washing my hair. My hairstylist mentioned powder you can use instead of washing it.

What do you all do? I don't want my hair looking greasy from sweat.

Re: Do you wash your hair everyday?

  • Yes and no. On the days I workout that I get really sweaty I'll wash it (which is almost every day). If it doesn't get too sweaty I don't wash it. It's kinda gross and I feel bad to whomever might smell my hair, but I really don't care.
  • No, usually 1-2x per week.
  • I have to wash my hair every time I workout because I sweat so much it's soaked (as in it looks like I stood under the shower to wash it).  My hair is short though so I have to wash it daily anyway for styling purposes.
  • I do wash it every day, but I feel like my scalp gets really greasy if I don't.  I sweat pretty much every day between running and yoga.  Supposedly the salts in sweat will make your color fade faster, not sure exactly how true that is but I still try to wash it after workouts.
  • Nope. I shampoo on the days I run, and have dry shampoo for the days between if it looks or feels gross.
  • I wash my hair every day.  I sweat way too much when I work out not to.

I kind of do this. After CrossFit I always wash my hair, since often my head will have contacted the floor at some point, plus loads of sweat. Soon I'll be going 5x per week, but I don't want my hair to dry out horribly so I'm planning to only shampoo it 3x per week and just rinse/scrub it out with water the other days to get the surface dirt and sweat off.

  • Nope, every other day, but if I've exercised a lot that day I'll wash it.

  • Yes, I have to. I always have. I have very oily skin on my face, and apparently scalp. I know people say it's not good to wash it every day, but I have tried skipping a day and it is NOT pretty. Even using dry shampoo doesn't help all that much. And even if I wash it at night, by early the next afternoon I am starting to feel like it's getting icky. Add in the fact that it is short-ish and I sweat like crazy when I work out...and there is no getting around the fact that I am stuck washing it every single day.

  • I wash my hair daily and twice on the weekends if I ride in the morning. I use a very gentle fragrance free shampoo, and I've never had a problem washing my hair too much.
  • I've tried everything possible to not wash daily--multiple dry shampoos, purges, no poo. Nothing worked on my fine blonde hair.

I shampoo every night before bed and just rinse my hair after workouts.

  • I rinse my hair with water every day, and I wash it on Saturdays with a mixture of baking soda and Dr. Bronner's soap.  I have really long hair and it is much less tangly and so much softer since I stopped using shampoo.

I was a daily shampooer until a few months ago.

  • I wash mine every other day- sometimes every 3 days. I have also heard that if you are going to wash your hair daily, its better to alternate using shampoo but continue use of conditioner. The shampoo strips your hair of all the healthy oils and dries it out.

  • I wash my hair about twice a week.  Sometimes I rinse without shampoo or conditioner in there somewhere, more for style than cleanliness.  But, my hair doesn't get very oily and I'm not a big sweater.

  • When I was running, I had to wash my hair everyday I ran because it got so sweaty....eeeeewwwwww. My hair stylist also gave me crap, but there was no way a little water and powder would fix it.

  • I wash my hair every time I workout, once or twice a day, six days a week.  I have the powdered shampoo stuff, but I only use that if there is no shower available (like after a race).

Same. I use Suave's dry shampoo that is a spray and not a powder. I love it.

  • Yup, every single day.  Usually twice a day, actually. Once in the morning before work, and again in the afternoon/evening after my workout.

I know I shouldn't, but my hair is so fine that if I wash it at night before bed, I have to wash it again in the morning b/c it's a grease pit already.  I've tried a couple of dry shampoos but haven't really found any I like.
