Talk to me about portable hydration...

The hot summer months are coming, and I know I will need to bring water with me on my runs. If you carry water with you, what do you use? I'm not sure I would like a hand held water bottle but I'm concerned a belt with a bottle will bounce.

TIA!

Re: Talk to me about portable hydration...

  • I have a fuel belt that I use. It doesn't bounce. On my last long run I decided to go without my belt and just grab water from a coffee shop on my route. I'd rather have the belt, it saves time. I have never used my fuel belt for actual races though, since water and sports drinks are always supplied.
  • I *far* prefer my Nathan Speed 2 belt over my Amphipod handheld. Last time I tried to use the handheld, I went back to the house before I ran even 1/10th of a mile to get the belt instead. It doesn't bounce and is easy to adjust--Velcro, not a latch strap like Fuel Belt brand--and doesn't bother me at all. The handheld gets on my nerves for a number of reasons... too cold to hold, annoying to hear the sloshing, leaks more often than not... just bleh.

Hmmm, my Fuel Belt brand belt has velcro, not a latch.

Maybe DH's is a discontinued style, from Running Warehouse. It's got a clicky latch with the belt made of webbing, not stretch elastic with Velcro like my Nathan belt. I've had to borrow his in a pinch, and the extra strap leftover after I cinch it up is a PITA. "One size fits most" kind of deal. The Nathan ones are S/M/L... maybe newer Fuel Belts are too?

  • I got a Camelback Annadel, Im a relatively newbie runner & wasn't sure what to get...but I was 100% certain that I did not want a waist belt, Im short & have zero torso, & I loathe things bouncing around my waist...Anyway, someone off this board recommended that pack & so after checking around, I got one.

I just ran w/it for the 1st time last week & was pleased w/it. Its designed specifically for a woman so it sits right, & it didn't bounce, or slide back & forth across my back when I was running.

So, yeah, 2 thumbs up for me!

  • I love my Nathan fuel belt. Doesn't bounce at all. I have a short torso as well, and it doesn't bother me.

  • Thanks for the responses:) I purchased a Nathan Fusion Belt and an add on flask off of Running Warehouse - hope I like using the belt!
