First open house

We had an open house today.  No one showed up.  I'm resigning myself to the fact that we are probably not going to sell our house.  Its not a big deal.  We don't need to sell.  It's just disappointing.  I think there are just no buyers out there in our area. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Re: First open house

  • I usually just lurk but I saw that you are in New Orleans (we are too).  I think the reason is that it's Jazz Fest weekend.  There is a TON of stuff going on in the city right now.  I bet if you hold another one on a weekend when not much is going on that people will show.  We are lucky that NOLA's market is decently strong.  Good Luck!!

Chin up! It will sell. The right buyer just has to come along and s/he is out there. It's tough. Keep your house listed competitively and create curb appeal.

Also, if it happens to still remain unsold by autumn, leave it on the market over the winter. It's true that fewer people buy homes in the autumn and winter seasons. Inventory is a lot lower at those times of the year so people who NEED to buy due to a job move or change in a family situation, have to pick from what's available to them at that time. If you are listed at a slow time, there are fewer homes for a motivated buyer to look at and that is good for you.

  • I think you are giving up way too easily here. Just because you had one open house and nobody showed up doesn't mean you aren't going to sell. The market is moving slower than it used to, that's all.

I kind wonder if you even really WANT to sell your house if you are giving up that easily. I'm assuming this was your first open house and you haven't been on the market that long. You say you don't have to sell, maybe think about if you really want to?

  • We had 4 open houses (one each month that our house was for sale) and at the most recent one (the weather was gorgeous), nobody showed either.

Not everyone is into going to open houses, and we noticed that almost everyone that did come to one of our open houses weren't ready to buy yet (either had a house to sell that wasn't listed, or was just curious to see what was out there).

  • I'm sorry to hear you didn't have any traffic. I can only imagine how hard that must be. Like the other ladies said though, just keep your chin up and everything will work out. The market is a little slower than it was in years past but the nice things is summer is coming and the market should pick up. Best of luck selling your home!

Where are you in the NO area?  I agree, yesterday was a terrible day to have an open house with all the events going on in the city.  There are definitely buyers out there, so don't give up hope.  We live in the area, and things are definitely picking up.  We re-listed our home in the spring, and it sold to the second person that saw it.
