Cricut Help Needed

I'm thinking of buying one but don't have a clue on which one to buy.  Is the Expression 2 worth it? I know nothing about them, but I like to DIY and it seems like a lot of projects would be shortened by using one.  Which would you girls pick?

TIA

Re: Cricut Help Needed

  • I have a regular expression and I like it and use it regularly.  Cricut is a cart based system so if you are thinking you would rather be able to download images/fonts for free or design your own things you may want to look into another machine like the silhouette.

  • Agreed.  There are many other AWESOME machines out there that are not limited to cartridges.  Even if you purchase carts at $20, you'll probably only use a few on each and that adds up in the long run.  Aside from that, PC is a crap company that has extremely poor customer service and produces machines that are well under par from what they promise. You can check Cricuts own message boards to see that.

Definately check out Silhouette (I've heard great things about the new Cameo).  These are more expensive and have a bigger learning curve, but the performance is outstanding: KNK (I have a Zing), and Black Cat.  All of these machines are compatible with Make The Cut software which allows you to design your own cut files.

  • I have a cricut, and I keep hoping one day it will find its way off a cliff so I can have an excuse to buy a new cutting machine, specifically the Silhouette Cameo.

I think the Cricut is great for beginners that care mostly about scrapbooking and cardmaking. But if you'd like to branch into custom crafts, and really open up your crafting doors, something that is not cartridge based would be a better option.

  • Thanks for all the great advice Ladies.  My Silhouette Cameo arrived last weekend, I can't wait to try it out.  It's a little intimidating though, but I'm hoping to bust it out this weekend.
