If you were getting married...
Would you not want to cry during your ceremony, or would you expect to cry a little and be fine?
I'm officiating my sister's wedding ceremony on Friday, and am working on my 'homily' type part, where I go off script and speak about the couple. And I can't come up with much that won't make the two of us cry. I think I can keep it together as long as I don't look at her (during that part).
Is that really bad? Should I stick to fart jokes?

Re: If you were getting married...
I got broken up during my vows at my wedding (not down and out cried but I had to stop talking and didn't know if I'd be able to finish my vows). I didn't mind though, I think it's obvious that when something like that happens it's because this whole marriage thing is a big deal for you.
When I go to weddings I love seeing the bride or groom get a little choked up, it brings a little tear to my eye.
I say go for it....as long as you're not going to both be ugly crying all over the place, and as long as it stays about the couple and not about you guys as sisters.
I say, go with racial humor. Always a crowd pleaser.
But for real, you're probably going to cry and everyone is going to find it adorable, so just run with it. You only get to be a cheeseball a few times in life and not be mocked by people like me, and this is one of them. Go for it.

I thought I would be a blubbering mess at my wedding but I never actually cried during the ceremony. Right before I walked down the aisle this weird gulping sound came out like I was about to sob and my dad looked at me like I was crazy and I laughed and was fine.
To be honest, I like when people are emotional durng weddings and I think since you are officiating everyone would expect it. With your sense of humor I picture you mixing the sentimental in with the funny and I am sure it will be perfect.
1. the clete made you a video and you didn't say anything. you are on hold with me!
2. i am pausing the hold to answer this post.
3. i think its acceptable and sweet to cry at a wedding. my BIL married myhusband and i and he cried a bit.
4. the hold is back on.
1) I've barely been here.
2) I'm a big jerkhead
3) I will be finding the Clete video and sing his praises in his own separate post, ML style. But I'll link the original post, RE style.

I say go with your gut and do what resonates with you. If the speech that will make you cry is the one that makes you feel the best, go for it! Throw some jokes in too
I wouldn't want to cry but I wouldnt mind if I did a little bit. If I do a lot then my eyes get mega puffy and it's not a pretty sight.
i don't cry when i'm happy, i laugh. so i laughed--like, throw back my head and laugh--during my wedding. there are great pictures.
i love when people get emotional at weddings. the worst weddings are the ones that are stiff and formal and unemotional. i always wonder, "do you guys actually love each other? or even KNOW each other?" when there is no laughter or tears.
Man, I always cry at weddings.
I totally cried coming up the freaking aisle and I was so mad about it. I thought I was totally fine - and THEN my freaking dad, right before we walk in, goes all "I'm so proud of you, this is one of the happiest moments of my life." GREAT. Then as I'm trying to pull it together I step into the sanctuary and look up and Heith is at the front looking all lovestruck and my little sister is standing next to him straight up bawling. I was like "welp, guess I'm crying up the aisle." I got a hold of myself for our vows - I was very happy we ended up with traditional vows. If I had had to speak of my own accord without just repeating after someone, I would have lost it again.
