Wilmington, NC

We are headed down here the first week of June to visit DH's grandparents.  We have been here before and took a boat ride along the river, seen the battleship and went to the beach. We are here for a week and I am looking for something else to do.  Any suggestions?

Re: Wilmington, NC

  • I would drive down to Carolina/Kure Beach (about 30 mins or so depending on traffic) and visit the pier and make a point to eat Squigglys ice cream. The best in the world! You can also drive a little further to Fort Fisher. You can tour the old fort, drive out on the beach if you have a 4 wheel drive, and go to the aquarium, its one of the best I have ever been to (and its cheap). You can also ride the ferry over to Southport which is a nice little town, the ferry ride is fun.

  • Ditto pp, I was going to suggest the aquarium as well. We also did a tour of the movie studio once--good grief, that was a long time ago, they were filming Dawson's Creek at the time!

  • I lived in Wilmington for 5 summers. I loved it. I highly recommend going to Wrightsville Beach. It's the closest beach town to Wilmington. It's so nice! While there you should have lunch at South Beach Grill. It is amazing! Trolley Stop Hot Dogs are also very good! At night the downtown is great. There are plenty of cool spots for live music and cheap drinks.  If you like shopping, the shops at Mayfair are great. It is a wonderful outdoor shopping area off Eastwood Rd. Oh and if you're into gardens, Arlie Gardens is the place to go. It is so beautiful.

Have fun! I wish I was there right now!
