Favorite place to travel with a toddler?

That's not an amusement park?

Our kiddo is pretty adaptable and we can take her almost anywhere.

We would like to take a trip that also has activities she can enjoy not just places that we are taking her along with us.

We were thinking DC. She might enjoy all the museums.  I seem to remember there are a lot that are hands on. She's 17 months right now.

  • I don't have any specific suggestions but I don't think D.C. would be great. There are some hands-on activities at some museums but it's geared more towards elementary school aged children v. toddlers.
  • So far? London. He loved all the buses, trains and people.

I thnik DC would be awesome!

I agree with London, or anywhere in England. We also enjoyed Spain and Portugal with our son. I think DC would be great too.

  • We enjoyed spending some time out in San Francisco with our DS. We went to a few museums, he loved the trolley cars and the sea lions at the wharf.

San diego is the most kid friendly city!  The beach, the zoo, the museums in Balboa park, the aircraft carrier, the model train museum, the tide pools at La jolla, I can go on and on.  We live in Pittsburgh and my brother lives in Southern California.  We love to visit with our 2 year old and 4 year old.

We go to DC frequently because my bff lives there.  There is plenty for a toddler to do.  They love to run around the mall and the monuments. The Udvar Hazy museum fascinates both of them for hours.  The other museums, not so much. The steam trains they like at the american history museum, but the dinosaurs are better at our museum.  They had more fun mini golfing and playing at one of the Fairfax County parks then in DC the last time we went.

  • My kids were 3.5 and 1.5 when we went to Boston in the summer and they loved it, so much to do but they mostly loved the parks.

And I love Aruba for kids.

  • DC is no good until they're much older. There is very very little that's hands on, even the child's room in the natural history museum is for older kids. There aren't any playgrounds close to the major sights to give her a break. Paris is better in terms of parks for little kids near major sights.

I'd just go where you want to go, take her to the park or beach or water park or something and call it good. She'd have as much fun in your back yard as she will in pretty much anywhere. Most large cities have children's museums. Aquariums are also good at that age, but not zoos because the animals are so far away the toddler ends up playing with the sticks on the ground in front of the exhibit.

  • DC is a good idea. DD loved the zoo there when she was just under 2 years old. Other cities I thought were good with her are Boston (2 years old) and Paris (15 months old when we first visited).

I thought Key West, FL was also pretty child-friendly. We took her there when she was 10 months old and again when she was about 2.5 and had a great time on both trips between the hotel pool, walking around, and the Butterfly museum.

Are you serious? You must not know DC at all. It is great for kids. The zoo in itself is amazing for kids at that age. The entire Mall is great for kids, just to run on. To say DC is not good for kids until they are much older is ridiculous.

  • At 16 months I took my daughter to an AI in Mexico.  She had an absolute blast.  We do big city stuff all the time at home, so she really enjoyed the change of pace just enjoying the beach and pool for a week.
