Fashion question! ::hands balls to Dev for the moment::

A buddy of mine just gave me what appears to be a brand new suit that happens to perfectly fit (just needs to be hemmed at the bottom a tad).  It looks great!  But it's wool.

Are wool suits known/seen as being cheap, ugly, anything-else-negative?  I felt like a bad ass putting it on, but depending on the results of this thread, that may be a fleeting feeling.

Thanks!

  • I have it on good authority that Dev is planning on spraying your balls with gold glitter before she returns them.

As to the suit, I have no idea. I'm lucky my clothes match in the morning.

  • IME, wool suits can look wonderful or they can look cheap as hell. It really depends upon how it was made, and it's tough to judge without actually seeing it. If you *feel* good in it and can rock it with confidence, that's more than half the battle right there.

Since I have no eye for it, I'll have to test it out to determine - it sounds like.  I'll take it to the beach!

Mesh, you are wrong.  They're a natural glittery-gold already.

Why? Why, jeebus, Why?  Why did this have to be said?

and i think you can rock the suit.  what color is it?

  • What pp said about made but also it's about fit. Take the whole thing to a tailor even if you think it only needs to be hemmed. As someone who just helped H buy a entire business formal wardrobe, this is the most important lesson I learned.

Hey I didn't wanna say it, but... She started it!!

    Its black, pin stripes.

ETA: Thx Jenni, I'll do that.

  • Seconding take it to a tailor, the fit makes the suit and can make some adjustments.

Wool as a suit material is classic, too- so as long as the fit is good, you're gold as balls.

I will choose to trust your take on wool suits, so thank you.  I'll take it in - I feel good about this!  :)

  • I bet metallic balls taste funny.

I bet most balls do.  Texture must be a b!tch, unless the person in question likes squash.

  • I second taking it to the tailor to get it fit. If you like it, and it makes you feel good, then you're golden.
A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

I appreciate the sentiment, but then I recall the fact that some people feel good in Uggs.

True, but there's nothing you can do to convince those people that they're not living in Alaska so they don't need to wear them, is there?

Not unless I walk around carrying a large mirror all the dang time.

  • If it's 100% wool and lined, you've probably got a decent suit on your hands. Does it have a maker's tag in it?

Imma little Don Johnson about the pinstripes, but hey the 80's are back in full, like totally.

Theres a tag but I forgot what it was.  Will check tonight when I get home.

I'd agree on the pinstripes, but they're faint/subtle and narrow - as opposed to wide - whatever the term is in describing the distance from one stripe to another.  Maybe a centimeter, maybe slightly less.

Lol, yeah no.  There's no cross hatching, plaidy bullsh!t going on. It's more:

  • It sounds classic.  I love a good wool suit.
