Summer Beach Wedding: Attire?
So, the website's guest info says it's a "casual wedding" and "summer semi-formal dressesl".
I've never been to a wedding on the beach.....exactly what does that mean?
Also, what about shoes?
ETA: Oh and the ceremony is late afternoon, so the reception will probably go into the evening.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
Re: Summer Beach Wedding: Attire?
That invitation sounds . . . contradictory. Casual wedding, but "summer semi-formal dresses"?
I'd wear a sundress and flip flops.
lol..yeah. That was what confused me.
I'd be a bit more dressy than a sundress. I mean, cotton is fine if it's a more formal cut, but it should be a bit more than a sundress. I'd stay away from anything made out of satins, taffetas or more formal material.
I don't know your body type or what you're comfortable with, but I'd think these dresses, at least in terms of shapes and fabrics, could all work. Some of the colors and prints are a bit much, but hopefully it's a good starting point.

As for shoes, I'd do either flats or wedges since you're on the beach. Anything flip-floppy is too casual and will flick sand at you. Do something that will stay in place a bit better and is a bit more dressed up.
Yeah I wouldn't do a sundress. Too casual. I would wear a simple cocktail dress, light in color, and dress it down with understated jewelry and hair. No flip flops either. I'd wear metallic sandals or a nude heel or something, and for the part of the wedding on sand, I would just take off the shoes.
The entire wedding won't be on sand, likely just the ceremony. And even flip flops are hard to wear on sand---you just end up flinging sand up yourass--so might as well wear a nicer shoe if you'll be barefoot on the beach anyway.
Beach bride here! LOL
Go for a dress like Moxie posted. Ditto the wrap. If the ceremony is on the beach, you will be fine, but once you move indoors, you may be chilly thanks to the a/c.
I would even opt for a maxi-length dress so that the wind doesn't blow your dress up!
Something like ...

For me, this means sweating profusely. Not sure how you are, or if this is a Florida beach or a Maine beach, but bring a fan and something for shine if you are prone to getting sweaty/shiny easily.
For a wedding, I'd wear something nicer than a sundress. I have this dress, which I love, and which I'd wear to a casual wedding (I'll probably wear it to a rehearsal dinner next month): http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=898737&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl%3Fsa%3Dt%26rct%3Dj%26q%3D%26esrc%3Ds%26frm%3D1%26source%3Dweb%26cd%3D2%26ved%3D0CF4QFjAB%26url%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.oldnavy.com%252Fproducts%252Fwomens-printed-wrap-dresses-P898737.jsp%26ei%3DsgOfT6b7GsqdiQLZt_1w%26usg%3DAFQjCNHoDKkxKZwt6vmTNp4dNWbimQm-kw%26sig2%3DPAbON7g-bd8XnJ370tQ4KA
I'd wear flats for the ceremony at least, or else wedges if you have/like them. If the reception is indoors, you can bring some nicer shoes for that if you'd like.

I'm thinking a long dress like this because of my whitey white legs. There's no pantyhose for sure. I think I'd like to find a shrug too.
lol moxie. It's definitely not my destination choice.
I'm still bitter about the damn pre-wedding pics we had for a wedding I was in this past January in Costa Rica. I literally had to go back and mop up my face and re-apply make up between the pictures where we stared into the 90+ degree sun for 10 minutes and the ceremony beginning. I looked like I'd run a 5k or something.
Anyway... I'm the worst person on earth for this, but it's something to keep in mind if the wedding is somewhere that may be really hot.
Interesting. I don't believe in heels (got married in flats, to my photographer's annoyance), but I saw a girl in wedges at a recent beach wedding and it seemed to work ok.
Oh don't worry about that. There is no way I'll wear any sort of heel in the sand. However, perhaps like others said, you take off your shoes and go barefoot anyway?
The beach is just so not my territory. Uggh.
What about this? Dressy enough? It's a bit more than I want to spend, but I think this would look good on my figure and it looks comfortable:
ETA: Whoa, what happened to that picture?
