First, we found out on Saturday that the comps for our area suck (the nicer ones sold in the last year or so, the ones up for sale now are 1 bedroom bigger or not as nice) and if we get stuck paying closing costs, we'll lose $3-4k on our house when we sell. On top of the $3-4k we've put into fixing it up in the last few years (new plumbing, kitchen counters, hot water heater, carpet, etc.).. So we either stay put (which will be cramped, DS will be in a school that requires me to completely adjust and cut my hours by a third so I can pick him up -- no bus service) or we lose money and find a rental until we can afford to buy a home again, which we don't know how long that'll be.
And now, I've lost my flash drive that had my entire life on it. I was keeping track of our checking account on it (because I can't stand paper registers) and I lost it sometime between work on Wednesday and coming in today. I've called every place I went since leaving work on Wednesday and no one has turned it in anywhere. I don't think it had any personal information on it (outside of I wrote this check number to this place and this is how much we pay for our auto insurance per month), but I had other personal stuff on it (like journal back-ups and a few pictures).
I just want to go back to bed now.
Re: I'm living up to my SN today. :(
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry
About the flash drive?can I make a couple suggestions? 1) Get an external hard drive. You can back up your entire computer on it and leave it connected to your computer so it doesn't get lost, and take it with you on trips or when you really need it. You can get software that backs up your files automatically (mine backs up nightly when I go to bed) 2) Get a thumbdrive with a key ring! You'll never lose it (unless of course you lose your keys).
Good luck with everything!
I have my entire computer backed up on an external server (computer geek husband) but the flash drive was something I took to work with me so I could keep track of our bank account when I had downtime. The pictures were copied off, but it still freaks me out to know that pictures of my kid are in someone's hands. And it totally had a keyring, but the spot it plugs in at work is far enough from the floor that it would rip my flash drive out so I took it off the keyring and just put it in my purse or my work bag.
I'm going to tear my house apart (again) to see if I can find it, but we literally cleaned top-to-bottom this weekend for the realtor so I have no idea where it could have gone. Unless some munchkin got ahold of it and hid it. It could be like my H's wedding ring and the munchkin finds it a few weeks later.

Thanks! I'm planning on tearing my house apart (again) to look for it (INCLUDING the toy box -- I'm looking at you kid). I called every place I went to after I had it last (including Home Depot, Babies R Us and the maternal fetal medicine office) as well as having H look in his car and ask his step-dad if I dropped it in his truck. So if I find it, I'm going to switch over to dropbox so I can keep track of my stuff!

I'm so sorry
I know there are ways to back up information going forward. But you still cringe knowing what's on the drive you lost.
If it's any consolation, I lost my jump drive right after my wedding. Thanks goodness pictures and stuff were also on my hard drive, but it had a ton of stuff on it. I eventually found it. I won't tell you how long I went without it, but it eventually turned up.
I'm sorry. We are going to lose a crap ton on our house. It sucks. But, once it is over, renting is actually pretty great.
I really hope you find your flash drive. That sucks!
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)
