Raspberries? What have I gotten myself into?
A friend of mine offered me three mature raspberry plants she would otherwise be ripping out and taking to the land waste dump. We're going over this afternoon to pick them up.
I don't know the first thing about raspberries other than I really enjoy eating them!

Re: Raspberries? What have I gotten myself into?
We put ours in a half wine barrel to contain it. It does really well in there. A gardening expert once told me that was impossible, but evidently it's not. It produces every year. Maybe it will eventually outgrow the pot, but we're on year 3 of harvesting, so it's been worth it even if it dies.
I've read that you should cut back all but three or four of the newest, strongest canes every winter. This year I thought ours had died and we got rid of almost all the canes, but it's back and bigger than ever, so maybe there's something to removing the old growth.
I'd just give them room and lots of sun but I love raspberries and would welcome three plants. If you don't have space, don't take all of them.
I also have one plant in a raised bed garden and it's already doubling its growth this year.
