A friend of the family lost her mother on Friday.
It's really devastating because today is my friend's birthday, and she has the stress of this falling all around her. You see, her mom had 7 adopted children--one is in a juvenile home but the other 6 lived with her. Now the 6 children are living with my friend in her 2 bedroom apt., and she's going to have to break them up because, obviously, she can't take care of 6 children.
In addition, she works, she's a grad student (finals are this week), she has to find a new home for the family dog, and she gets to deal with all the estate/legal stuff including a nightmare of real estate. Things are just crap.

Thanks, everyone. The funeral was today, and we had a chance to talk about a lot of things. It doesn't look like she's going to be able to keep any of the kids due to financial strain, but they don't know that yet. One of the girls is also acting out a lot now, which is understandable but unfair to my friend. Luckily my friend has a really strong support system that is helping her cope.
