ugh... buyer backed out

sorry - just need to vent for a minute.

my sister and i have been trying to sell my grandmother's house for about a year now. the market for the type of house she had isn't great in our area right now. we've reduced the price and are on the very low end of what houses have been selling for within the last couple of months.

anyway, we finally got an offer last week, negotiated, signed everything, and the inspection was yesterday. apparently the sky light in the screened-in porch has leaked at some point so the buyer is backing out. i'm just annoyed that he wouldn't even ask for a repair (because we have no problem fixing it!). so it's back to the waiting game. i was so hoping this whole ordeal would just be over soon. grrrrrr.

Re: ugh... buyer backed out

  • Did you offer to fix it? Or do you think they were just looking for any reason to back out?
  • That stinks, I totally understand the feeling. We had a buyer back out too (and two other offers that walked away before negotiating a price). It is such an emotional roller coaster.  I hope you have a new buyer soon!

yup, i'm guessing he just second-guessed his offer.

  • Have you thought about having it staged, or at the very least, painting everything?  Estate homes often take ages to sell because they look, and even moreso, feel old and out of date.

I agree with this. It's often difficult for a buyer to imagine themselves in a place that seems like it will need a lot of work.

this isn't the home where she lived most of her life. it's a patio home that she bought about 8 years ago after my grandfather died. it was repainted after she moved in and has been updated some since then. the only dated aspect is the linoleum in the kitchen but it's still in good condition.
  • Keep your head up.

If we were in your area that would be a great home for us. We wanted a home that we could update and make our own. :)

    Hopefully you sell it soon.
