Lawyers - anyone following the Dewey disaster?
I feel really bad for all those people. Things are going from bad to worse to worser. I have a friend who's a partner there, and I'm afraid to ask her about it.
Re: Lawyers - anyone following the Dewey disaster?
It's a gigantic firm with officed all over the world - formed several years ago via the merger of two very large firms. They overextended themselves via guaranteed pay packages to some big partners, racked up a ton of debt and now they're imploding. They're even being investigated by the Manhattan DA's office. It's pretty bad.
People have been trying to get out for months. But there are so many lawyers that there's no way all these people, especially the staff, associates and partners without books of business, are going to find jobs.
Dewey, Fuchem and Howe!
lol sorry
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
My first thought went to Dewey, Cheatum & Howe, but I like your version better.
Heh. Dewey, Cheatum & Howe is my favorite Fake Law firm name.
Since leaving my last firm five years ago, I don't keep up with firm stuff anymore. No more Above the Law for me.
That's just awful re Dewey. In my heydey, we were all shocked when Brobeck went down.
Yeah, I just dated myself. LOL.
LOL, I remember that. And Venture Law Group. Remember them?
I try to avoid ATL. I hate giving them pageviews.
I almost accepted an offer from VLG before I went to the other silicon valley firm.
I am horrified about Dewey. I do think, though, that for the most part the attorneys will be picked up by other firms. It's such a well regarded firm and, at least in litigation, the market is expanding like crazy right now. People I know who were laid off in 2010 are now employed again, I've gotten several calls from headhunters in the last three weeks about two different firms that are expanding into the LA market for the first time, I can't imagine the Dewey lawyers won't be attractive in these circumstances. Though they may have to leave NY if they saturate the market there. (BTW, I do blame Dewey's collapse for the lack of spring bonuses).

I had no idea. YIKES.
One of my roommates summered at Brobeck. She never recovered. Poor girl had to go to Morgan Lewis.
