Anyone ever been on the Autotrain on Amtrak?
Considering going on a trip to FL to see family. Airfare is just
eating my entire budget, figuring I would need to rent a car out there
and get a hotel, etc..was either considering a road trip or hop on the
auto-train and snail our way back after we visit the family.
Anyone been on one before? Pickup is in DC and drop off is outside of
Orlando area. Probably considering a trip late Oct or November.
Re: Anyone ever been on the Autotrain on Amtrak?
Flying is probably cheaper especially if you check deal websites.
The auto train only leaves out of VA and you would disembark in Sanford FL
For one passenger with one vehicle plus a room on a round trip basis is 1k.
Of course you could omit the room and just sleep in your seat. Personally I would think with the length of travel time that would be very uncomfortable.
Dh and I ( although he does work for Amtrak) have never done the auto train and never will. For us it's cheaper and a lot faster to fly.

We did it with kids and with SIL and family and we had a great time, but...
we did it once. And that's that. We won't do it again (highly unlikely) as it was pretty $$ and we did sleep in our seats (not comfy and esp. not great considering we had a crying kid nearby-not ours).
I think it's cheaper to fly, honestly.
