NPCER: Lawyers, is this even legit?

I have an administrator wanting me to feature two alumni on our website because they are "Super Lawyers" - http://www.superlawyers.com/

Is that site/pub a legit award/recognition or is this a bunch of marketing clap trap?  Google is giving me mixed answers.

Re: NPCER: Lawyers, is this even legit?

  • I don't know much about it.

But being on there doesn't mean you are a super lawyer.  It's just a search engine to find lawyers.

Martindale Hubble runs a peer review rating system for lawyers, and that's the real thing to promote. If the lawyers are "AV-rated" by Martindale, that might be worth mentioning.

ETA - I just looked at the website, and I could be wrong about my initial impression.  I was confusing it with AVVO, which is a search engine for lawyers.  It might be worth mentioning, but I'm not sure.  I've always thought the Martindale rankings carried more weight, but I could be wrong.

  • I don't know much about it except that a lot of firms around here will advertise on their websites that x number of lawyers at the firm were selected as Super Lawyers.

  • I've never heard of it.  It seems a bit sketch, what with the questions on the bottom for the "Super Lawyers."

  • It is legit and marketing all rolled into one... not really any different than saying you are AV rated in Martindale.
  • it's legit.  well, as legit as any of these ego-stroking nonsense things can be.  you have to be nominated by somene externally as well as internally and there are parameters and so forth.

    kiss it, nest.

Interesting.  I feel like I see the AV thing mentioned a lot in bios and in ads for hiring, but never the Super Lawyer thing.  Is it newer?

It may be newer, but it is very popular in the southeast.

Not a lawyer but my dh has been picked twice as a  'Rising Star' (basically a Super Lawyer with less then 10 years experience.)  In our area the lawyers that are selected are printed in a well known regional magazine. I was pretty proud!
