Disney Question

Hi there:

We are going to Disney in Sept with near 4 year old daughter. (turns 4 in December). We are going 5 nights. thinking 4 days at parks.  We thought skip Epcot and do Hollywood studios. Travel agent is suggesting Epcot over HS. She says still plenty for younger kids to do and I guess have this Kidcot area in the countries. She is into Disney Jr shows and thought HS maybe was better. Thoughts?

Thank you!

Re: Disney Question

  • Hollywood Studios is definitely better than the Epcot for a three/four year old!

Agreed. Disney has a new campaign every 5-10 years it seems to make Epcot more kid-friendly but I always thought they were lame. First it was Kim Possible and now it's all about Duffy the Teddy Bear.

  • If she likes the Disney shows, then definitely head over to HS. They have the Disney Junior Live show that she'll love, plus I think that's where you will also find the characters from some of the shows (Special Agent Oso, Jake, etc.)

There's also the Toy Story Ride, and the Muppets!

  • While HS does have some fun stuff for kids, I totally disagree with the pp's.  I'd choose Epcot any day (and even among my friends who are Orlando locals, they hardly ever take their kids to HS).  Just my opinion though.  I love that Epcot is a little more educational (or at least used to be), and it was by far my favorite park when I was a kid.

  • If you have to choose, I would choose Epcot.  It is actually DD's favorite park.  Yes DHS has the Disney Jr. characters but that is just about it for them.  If you DC doesn't like 3D, he/she won't like Toy Story either.  DD hated it. Cried the whole time - after we waiting in line for almost 2 hours.

Even more than the kidcot stuff, Epcot has so much. There are so many shows and performances.  Nemo, Turtle Talk with Crush, an aquarium, The Land, Soarin (which is awesome), Figment and a room after the ride with so many different activities to do.

  • I would pick Epcot.  The only thing there really is for little ones is the Disney Jr show and the Little Mermaid Show (if it's still there).  My kids hated the Muppet's 3D show.  They freaked.

In Epcot, she can ride Space Ship Earth, visit Kidcot, there are rides in several of the countries in the World Showcase, Turtle Talk with Crush, The Seas with Nemo and the aquarium, The Circle of Life with Timon and Pumba, The Image Works for interactive play, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land where you visit the Disney Gardens (my kids loved this one) and several other things.  We've also seen more characters at Epcot than any other park.

  • My kids are now 5 and 8, and while they did like DHS we were easily done with it in half a day.  We did the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones and Disney Jr. shows, Toy Story Midway Mania ride, and some character greetings. EPCOT, on the other hand, had a lot more for them to do/see.  They loved visiting each of the countries (we made a "Flat Mickey" and they chose a special spot in each for a picture with him, and when we got home those were put into a photo book).  And plenty in Future World to keep them busy, too.  Each section was easily half a day in itself and we could have gone back if we'd had time in our schedule.

If I had to choose just one of them it would be EPCOT.  But I'd choose DHS over AK any day.  My animal-loving kids hate that park and don't mind skipping it entirely.

Thanks everyone! Lots to think about. :)
  • All kids are different, my kids were 4.5 and 2.5 and liked Epcot better than HS. At HS we had character lunch, rode Toy Story ride and saw Disney Jr.  My DS did not love AK at 3.5 either. Definately do 2 days at MK

Could you do 5 park days (the price difference for a 4 to 5 day ticket is low) and do half day at Epcot/half day relax and then half day at HS/half day relax?  Or if you're doing a park hopper you could combine the two in one day.

We are staying 5 nights... but thinking this morning that maybe we would do HS the day we arrived. being that we would get there around noon. then have 2 days MK, 1 AK, 1 Epcot/ relax part of day if decided.

Of course my child who a month ago said she wanted to go meet tinkerbell is now adamant she wants to go to the beach and not Disney. Ha. DH says still book. She will be fine when we get there.

You are more likely to have 1/2 day at AK than Epcot, Epcot is huge and you could easily do 1/2 day in the front and never even get to the countries. Oh, and ditto Livig with the land, it is my DS fav thing in all of Disney and we might do Behind the Seeds next time.

  • Ha, we are going in Oct and have to make some of the  same decisions.  However, for us it will be a choice between DHS and another day at Magic Kingdom.  We have chosen to make Epcot a must do for us because... well because DH and I think it will be more fun for ourselves than DHS.  Honestly, we are really looking forward to going to Epcot.  I think it looks fascinating and like a lot of fun.  Plus, I have made reservations at the Akershus restaurant so we will be having lunch with the princesses.  Yay, I can't wait to see DD's when we get there.

I say do whatever you think is best for your family.

  • I would say Hollywood Studios has the slight edge with all the Disney Jr shows.

However, epcot does have options for your 4 year old (including a good character meet and greet), so I would give the edge to what has more for you as parents ;-P

Purely for the kids, I would say HS.
