Mom disciplined daughter via FB
Re: Mom disciplined daughter via FB
I'm riding the line because the article doesn't go into very much detail about what the girl said/did exactly.
If she was just being a snotty 13 year old then I think that the consequence might be worse than the action. I'm okay with the text but the red x is almost akin to defacing a picture.
If on the other hand she said something vicious and hurtful about her mom or anyone else then the consequence definitely matches the action and I support the mom.
I don't want to tell other people how they should or shouldn't discipline their kids and based on the quote the girl gave it doesn't sound like she's damaged for life. Maybe any lesser consequence wouldn't have gotten through to the girl.
I don't know what I would do. H and I haven't decided what age we will let our kids have facebook. We do know it will be after 11/12 for sure... 13 still seems young but idk. I remember how pumped I was when we got internet at 15 and I could finally get on AIM.
As I think about it right now, I think the child should have been "grounded" or prohibited from facebook but the picture on both the Mom and Daughter's FB screams "labeling theory' in a very negative way. Why is the mother so bent on EVERYONE knowing the kid messed up?! seems like overkill to me.
