Another which derby dress (pips)

Derby and Cinco de Mayo party; I'm hostess and birthday girl.  Forecast is mid 70's

I have either a pink hat or natural straw colored hat that I'll add bow and flower too depending on which dress:

#1

#2 (apologize for terrible smiles and hair in these)

#3. This is on the edge of my comfort level and I don't really think it's complimentary, but my friend says this is the one. WDYT?

eta: I'd obviously wear a thong!

I can switch shoes/belts for any of these too. TIA for the help

  • This is hard for me... I like dress #3 best. I think its very cute and looks good on you (not crazy about the shoes - they look like work shoes, not party shoes) BUT I think #1 fits with the theme best.
  • I love #3 its fun! Where is it from? I agree different shoes.

  • I really dislike #3.  I just don't think it fits well or something.

#1 is very cute, but I really love #2 - especially the back.

Modcloth, it's my first purchase from them.  It runs kind of small. I'm 5'-5" and 140lb and needed the large (ordered medium too). Sorry I can't link right now

Thanks for the input.  I am torn on #3.  Even if I don't wear #2, I think I'll keep for fun; it was only $26 from H&M (w/a 20% off coupon). #1 is nice because I could rewear for work

I hadn't read your post very well, and now see that it's a combo Cinco de Mayo and Derby party.  In that case, I might go with #1, since the colors are more festive.  But definitely keep #2!

  • I think #1 is best for the occasion, it looks good on you too.

#2 is definitely a keeper to wear to work, etc.

#3 is too tight on you. If it weren't for the large cutout in the back, it could have been a good work dress. But, regardless, it's just too small IMO.

My thoughts exactly! #1 would be perfect for the occasion(s).

Thanks.  Looking at the pics, I think I really do agree with all of your comments; although unforunately #2 is too short for my workplace. But, yea, your #3 comment paired with me not feeling 100% confident in it; I think I'll return.

  • I think you look hot in #3 but if you're more comfortable in 1 go for it, it's cute and festive, and flattering.

I really like #1 the best.  It's very festive, and fitting for the occasion.  Plus, you seem the most comfortable in it.  I've always regretted wearing something I'm not comfortable in, and spending half the day tugging at this and pulling at that.

  • I think #1 is perfect, I really like it!! You look great in it with the hat and all, and it fits the themes for sure.

Hope you have a super fun & Happy Birthday! Party!!!

  • I really like #1 for the occasion.  I love #2, but it seems more "tea party" then Cinco de mayo party!

All of this.  I think #2 would also be good for a nice dinner out and it would be something that I would wear for my birthday outing.

  • 1 or 3 are Derby appropriate, but go with 1 if you are more comfortable.  Do a bow on the hat.  Flowers are out.  There are very few of them in the department stores and the ones that are there are in the older people's departments.  Derby is over the top color, prints, and acccessories.  I'm actually watching the festivites on the local news right now since we're having huge storms.  Less is more is not a Derby philosophy in fashion.  More is good, but over the top is better, even if this is an at home party.
