Charleston South Carolina

Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay and things to do in Charleston? We are looking to travel there in September. Want to do some beach and city time. Prefer to stay on beach.

Re: Charleston South Carolina

  • I loved Charleston.  Day trip to Savannah is easy and fun!

  • I second loving Charleston with a day trip to Savannah!  We went in late Sept and it was perfect weather!  We just stayed at a Residence Inn so no good hotel recommendations from me but we did the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens tour (there are quite a few other tours like that to choose from).  DH is a history buff so we did the Ft. Sumter tour too and considering I am not a history buff, I enjoyed it.

We went to Folly Beach one day too and really enjoyed that.

    Have fun!  I'm jealous!

  • We've stayed at Middleton Place several times and I love it but it's about 20 minutes from 'historic' Charleston.  We've also stayed at the Embassy Suites, Best Western and Hampton Inn in the historic area.

The only  beach area I've been to there was Folly Beach once and we rented a house for a weekend but I don't remember there being many hotels.  I think there is a Holiday Inn or something like that.    There are other beach areas also but I am not familiar with them.

  • I've been to Charleston a few times and my family likes to stay in Folly Beach.  We've rented homes right on the beach before and also stayed in the Holiday Inn there as well.     The Holiday Inn was good...nothing really special though just good location since it's easy to find and right on the beach.    If you do stay in the Folly Beach area there's a little cafe - I think it was the Salty Dog Cafe that was within walking distance and had yummy breakfasts.   Enjoy!
