Natural remedies for rosacea

My prescription coverage is awful & I can't get an Rx for less than $100 out of pocket for anything my dermatologist *thinks* might help w/my rosacea.  I started looking online for natural remedies & I'm finding references to lavender essential oil, green tea, feverfew, licorice, etc.  Has anyone used such remedies with any success?  I'm also considering going to a naturopath.  I did use metrogel a few years ago when I had better Rx coverage but it didn't seem to help much, so I am reluctant to spend that much $$ on something I really don't think is going to work anyway!  Any experiences would be appreciated- thx.

I feel your pain, I have it too. I've never tried herbal remedies.

A naturopath isn't necessarily a better choice than a dermatologist, because the causes are unknown. And what works for you might not work for me. Therefore, treatments vary, and no matter who treats you, they are guessing. And either way, it will probably still cost you at least $100 to "try", right?

I use makeup to even out the redness.

    Good luck.

  • i don't know how severe yours is but i've had good results from prosacea, an otc gel.  i don't use it daily, just when i have flare ups. mine isn't really severe (flushing/burning when i drink, am stressed, temp changes and i have 3 bumps that will come up at the same time about once every other month.)

  • I used Finecea but my dr. gave me a bunch of samples before I filled the prescription. Plus, they have a discount program. I got the info from my doctor but I believe it is on their website also.

  • I have rosacea as well and a few months ago I stumbled upon Clinique's Redness Solutions. It is so soothing. I think the last thing someone needs is harsh chemicals on irritated skin. It almost has a cooling affect as well. Might be worth a look...
  • Thanks to everyone for your input/suggestions- very helpful!  My rosacea isn't terrible, but it is pretty constant.  It looks like there are some things I can try OTC or at least less expensive before I got the naturopathic route.  Excellent!
  • I have it too and use Mario Badescu Control Cream.  I rarely have a bump now.
