How to get odor out of plastic beads?

I have some old beaded decor, wire with plastic beads.  They have a really funky smell to them, kind of like old stagnant water.  I've washed them in soapy water soaked them in bleach and water, and that hasn't done a thing.  Right now they're in a bowl covered with Febreeze.  What else will work?

  • I was going to suggest dryer sheets but you have already tried stronger things than that...I am at a loss - I would have guessed that the bleach would kill whatever was causing the odor!
  • I'd probably stick them in a bowl of baking soda to absorb some of the smell.  It might take a while and a couple batches of soda, but it seems like that should help draw the smell out.
