Long flight--what's in your carry-on?

We leave soon for our trip to London (so excited!)

Besides a change of clothing and important medications, what do you pack in your carry on bag?

Re: Long flight--what's in your carry-on?

  • Guidebook, compression socks, e-reader, and one of those Evian atomizers - my face and inside of my nose get really dry on long flights.  I like to spritz my skin with the atomizer every few hours.  That and the compression socks have made flying a LOT easier for me.  I feel a little silly perhaps, but it's totally worth it.
  • iPad, a good book, a magazine or 2, eye mask, some type of intense moisturizer and de-puffing eye cream (that's all I wear on long flights, no makeup for me), gum, Tylenol (just in case), and a sweater as I inevitably become freezing on any flight.
    PersonalMilestone Anniversary
  • Some OTC meds just in case, I second the evian atomizer/water spray - it's awesome and helps my  skin from drying out, eye drops/contact case/glasses, gum, a few snacks - usually carbs like pretzels, crackers, etc.  A good book, a couple magazines. A little pillow.  Some moisturizer just in case, and concealer - just in case;)
  • Eye mask, chapstick, headphones, ambien for the flight, Kindle, pashmina, travel pillow, & travel blanket (I spend most flights dressed for the Arctic I'm so cold on airplanes).
  • I've finally gotten to the point where I can carry on only, but in my easy to access "personal item" I do snacks (gummy bears, wintergreen lifesavers, some sort of protein bar, and something like goldfish crackers or trail mix), my Kindle + a magazine for take off/landing, my phone + charger (charge at the airport during layovers) + headphones, lotion, eye drops, eye mask (if a red eye), my 311 baggie and a tooth brush, wet wipes.  I also keep that bag with all my meds (Rx and OTC), jewelry, camera, extra batteries/battery charger.
  • I never check a bag so I carry on everything. My purse--which will be most accessible--has my laptop, kindle, a scarf, iPod, noise canceling headphones, passport, wallet, lip balm, lotion and any work files I need to access while in transit if traveling for work (almost always am).

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Laptop, ipad, iphone, a magazine for take off/landing, kindle, food (easy to eat, doesn't require a fridge, enough for at least one 'meal'), drugs like Tylenol pm, chargers for the above electronics, a little carrying case that includes what I need at my seat so I can have the foot room - iphone, ipad, headphones, cap stick, gum, tooth brush/tooth paste, anti-bacterial soap, lotion, mints to chew on.

Pretty much this.  I also have a pashmina and a pillow.

  • I also usually carry everything on, so this is what I have in my daypack that goes at my feet.

iPad with plenty of books and movies loaded, headphones, a magazine or crossword puzzle for takeoff, sweater or oversized hoodie, fuzzy socks (I typically wear sandals to make it easier through security and then my feet get cold.), eye mask, travel pillow, chapstick, small snack (pretzels, goldfish crackers, etc.), empty water bottle (so I can fill up in the airport instead of buying bottled once I'm through security), other items I want easy access to like camera, wallet, phone, etc.

    Vacation

    Vacation
  • Guidebook, novel, small snacks (granola bar, dried fruit and nuts), gum, moisturizing face wipes, antibacterial wipes, tissues, dramamine, wallet (always with some cash), chapstick.
  • Good book, my makeup, some sort of food with sugar (hypoglycaemic), moisturizer, socks, and iPod. Then, I sleep until I reach my destination!

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*
    Travel Adventures.
    Holiday
  • Toothbrush and paste. Hair brush. And, this is gross, but something like a soothing balm or vaseline that I can put on the inside of my nose. It gets super dry and painful with each breath if I don't have that. I've found that the Lansinoh lanolin works great and it can double as a lip balm too (my mom gets me sample sizes from post-partum her department at the hospital)
  • i dont pack a change of clothes. i generally layer-jeans, tank, long sleeved t, light sweater, scarf.

in my carry on-my kindle, document holder, phone, phone charger, camera, camera batteries and charger, jewelry, some make up-eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, lip balm, a brush-up, face powder, perfume, wallet, a crossword puzzle book, a pencil, 2 black pens for forms, i small round plastic container-like the width of a quarter and 1/2 inch high that has immodium, zyrtec, some cold pills, motrin. thats it. my carry on is a very small messenger type of bag.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

  • For really any flight - my always packed carry-on contains:

    1. travel pouch (travel size pain killer, chapstick, abreva, 2 bandaids, 2 hair clips, ponytail holder, 2 packets almonds, granola bar, mints, post-it pad, 2 pens, paper clips, couple cough drops, splenda packets, flavor shots for bottled water, 2 ziplock baggies, flash drive, highlighter, mini wallet thingy holding all my travel-related membership cards, nail clippers, wipes, hand sanitizer)
    2. water
    3. 2-4 throw-away books from a goodwill type store
    4. wrap
    5. slipper socks for plane
    6. chargers & electronics of choice
    7. meds
  • 1220winter pretty much covered it.

I would add - fill the water bottle at the airport after you go through security. I like to have water avail when I wake up. The plane gets very dry. I have been on a flight when they ran out of water in coach.

When I travel for work I carry my work shoes, a clean pair of undergarments and one pair of work pants. I figure if they lose my luggage all I need is a top which is easy to buy. I travel in comfy clothes - leggings, tshirt top. I also carry my translator and maps so I have them when I arrive. Also carry your valuables - camera, money, etc.

  • Wow! Some of you bring a lot of stuff!

    For my trips overseas:

    chapstick

    contacts /solution

    glasses

    toothbrush/toothpaste

    hair ties

    bottled water

    something to read

    something to listen to

    noise canceling headphones

    phone + charger

    socks

    snacks

    neck pillow

I always wear some variation of leggings, a tunic and a cardigan.
