Sigh. I'm going to Branson.

We're slow enough today that I figured I would share.  I thought it would be such a good thing when mom bought a condo there.  Get her and Stepdad out of town more.  I had no idea she would make us go there.  And she gave me my own key.  Uhhhh...thanks Mom.

Re: Sigh. I'm going to Branson.

  • Once we went to Branson when I was a kid.  I assume it sucked, I mean it was fukcing Branson.  But I don't really remember it.  I seem to remember a train that took us up a mountain or something?

Anyway, for YEARS afterward travel agents would call our house and try to sell my parents on a trip to Branson.  I guess they had gotten on some list while we were there.  And they would always yell at the poor people about how much they hated Branson and that they would never (NEVER) go back there.

Sometimes I think about what must have happened to make my parents so violently opposed to it.

  • It wouldn't be SO bad if it was closer. Five hours is too far to drive for such lameness.

  • Branson is such a strange place.  I mean some of the attractions are fine, but  others just make me  wonder who on earth watches that stuff.  ISeriously, who thinks the Presley Jubilee or the Baldknobbers is funny ?  Who ?
  • I think it's around 4 hrs Jen.  But yeah.  Ugh.  Give me Lake of the Ozarks or give me death!  As an aside, my sister's first big job was in Branson as a backup dancer at Legemds in Concert. She was 18 and I was 16. I went to visit her, we got in a tif at the grocery store and she left me there.  At a grocery store.  In Branson.  For 4 hours.  On the plus side, she now has "headdress experience" on her resume, and the Dolly Parton impersonator was super nice.

  • my dad is the black sheep of his family (well, his mom loves him lots).  anyway, his whole extended family got ALL PSYCHED about omigah!  we have to have a family reunion like we did in the old days (aside:  i went to a couple of these as a really little kid and one of my seventh cousins twice removed or something gave me MOONSHINE.  wtf?  i was EIGHT.  i spit it out.  apparently i'm related to hillbilly carnies or something).  and my dad was all "hey, how about vegas?  disney for the little kids?  seattle, since we've never been there?"

and everyone else was all "NO!  branson!"

my dad was all "you all enjoy.  i'd rather canoe on the river styx."

and now, no one from my immediate family, including me, has to go!  yay!

    kiss it, nest.
  • Look on the bright side, at least you don't have to go to Napa.
