Hey - this is such a random question.

Anyway, I have been making cloth dolls and got a request to make one with a feeding tube - so that the little boy can have a doll that looks just like him.

I know that your daughter is a tubie, and was wondering if you can give me any crafty tips on how to incorporate the idea of a feeding tube into a doll.

Is the tube attached to something like a pump?  Just looking for ideas.   THANKS!!

  • Ohhh...so glad to see this post :)

If you are making this custom for the little guy, does he have a gtube (button on his tummy) or an NG tube (tube through his nose)?  If he has an ng, then that is easy to mimic with yarns and ribbon.  If he has a gtube, then I would ask his mom if she has an old one that you can use (she can sanitize and clean it if it was used and she can cut off the balloon and stem that was actually in the belly).  Then, you could sew it onto the doll's belly.  A lot of tubie kids have stuffed dolls and animals with buttons :)  It is great for teaching them to self feed when they get older.

I have to share LA feeding her baby at Christmas time :)  Bad hair day, but sweet pictures

When the child is eating, the tube is either attached to a pump, gravity bag or  to a 60mL syringe.  Some kids are attached all day long (continuous feeders) while others only "hook up" when eating (bolus feeders).  If he is continuous, he probably has a little backpack he wears with the pump.  LA is a bolus feeder that uses a pump, but for her doll, she plays with a syringe.  His mom will have those as well as extension sets (the tubing that hooks to the button) if you use a real button.

Keep me posted and POST PHOTOS!!!  If I can answer anything else or help in any way, let me know!!!!!!
