Florida in May - what to pack, clothing-wise?

We are hitting Cocoa Beach in two weeks for 4 nights and then Orlando for 4 nights.  I know that the highs are in the 80s, but does it get cool at night?  Is it rainy?  I don't want to pack too much but don't want to short ourselves either.

TIA!

Re: Florida in May - what to pack, clothing-wise?

  • I would definitely bring a sweater.  Central Florida often cools down at night.  It's not particularly rainy in May, but I'd still check weather.com when you are packing.

  • I agree with pp. Bring a sweater.

    Definately bring a sweater/long pants.

H and just spend 3 days in Orlando last week before our cruise. It was chilly and rainy.  At night It was down into the low 60s/high 50s.  I almost felt like I was still in Michigan!

  • The lows right now are averaging 70*.  I *might* pack something light weight just because the beach can be a bit breezey at night. You never know when it will rain in that area.  There are usually afternoon showers every day starting in May to Sept.  They usually only last 30 min to an hour.  We usually just run in some where and have a snack.

Also, I have found weather.com to be quite inaccurate when I travel.  I always look up a local news station.  For the Orlando/Coco Beach area, cfnews13.com is what I usually rely on.

  • WHAT? a sweater? (It's already 80 in cocoa according to wunderground).

It's been hot as hell here and even more humid. It's disgusting, and it's in no way, shape or form cool here.

Oh, and we are also experiencing a record drought right now... so I don't know how much rain i'd be worrying about.

Have fun in Cocoa, it's great over there! My Aunt lives about a block from the beach! (I live on the West coast of FL)

  • Right now (in Orlando) we've been averaging upper 80's - low 90's during the day and our lows over night have been low 70's. It may be a little bit cooler at the beach (Cocoa area).

Ditto pp above.. you definitely won't be needing a sweater unless you tend to get chilly in over air conditioned restaurants, I would just bring a cardigan or 2.

We've barely been getting any rain which is driving my H nuts because he has to keep running our sprinklers or our lawn will dry up.

  • Thank you all for the responses!  Yeah, we have a condo on the beach in Cocoa Beach so that will be fun.  I'll keep an eye out for the rain (or lack thereof).  :)
