We're going to Guam late this summer, and want to fly up to Saipan for a few days. It appears similar to Guam, but I believe has sandier beaches.
Any suggestions on what to do, etc?

Re: Anyone been to Saipan?
Okay, here are some suggestions. I'm not sure where you're staying but the Hyatt Regency Saipan is easily one of (if not the) nicest hotels on the island. They have an excellent brunch and pretty nice grounds and beach access. If you are there during the weekend, splurge and go eat brunch there.
For some reason I can't imbed the link in the name, so here it is: http://saipan.regency.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels-saipan-regency/index.jsp?null
I'm also not sure how outdoorsy you are, but my #1 recommendation for any person visiting the island is to go and snorkel/dive from the Grotto. It's hard to explain. It's a natural enclosed part of the ocean. You can only get down there from the man made stairs, or underwater (which is why it's a diving point. It's freaking gorgeous, and scary (it's open ocean, occasionally sharks will come through), and amazing. I wrote about it.
ETA: Took out link! PM me if you want more:)
I also suggest visiting Marianas trekking. I did several of their excursions, the bike tour, Forbidden Island tour (recommended), the Grotto again. The guides are good, tell you stories, take your picture, go at your pace. It's a great company. All of these are pretty physically demanding, though. Just an FYI.

There is one upscale mall there for shopping called The Galleria. Funny, since there is lot of poverty on the island. Don't be shocked when you see it. It's scattered throughout, unlike a more American city where you might have ritzy areas and poor areas and you may never see the other side if you don't choose to.
As far as food, it's hard because I can't guarantee any of these places will still be open 3 years later. But Coffee Care (it's a full service restaurant) in the Capitol Hill part of the island was always reliable food and decent (free) internet service.
Expressions is a great wine and cheese shop. Owned by an American. Also in Capitol Hill, not far from Coffee Care.
Java Beach off of Micro Beach Road (near the Hyatt) in the Garapan area of town has really good food, a tad expensive considering, but very spotty internet. At least it's free.
Oleai Beach has one of the best locations on the island. Beachside (on Beach Road). the food is utter crap. But if you want a beer with a great view, go for it.
I would have embedded more of these links. It looks like I'm spamming you with my blog! So sorry about that. I'll probably come back in a day or two and delete these links. But here's a good place to start. Definitely check out Marianas Trekking for excursions you can just show up for and see everything!
Thank you so much, Danie! This is all so helpful! I'll copy all the links and email them to myself so I can refer back to them later as well.
I appreciate all of the info, and you coming back to give me more detail.
Thanks again!
