white letters at Joann's - ?

I'm on my 4th coat of purple acrylic paint on these white-washed letters - the ones that are coated in some sort of white, smooth material and are next to the wood letters.  The only time I've had an easy time painting them is when I've used dark colors - black or brown.  DH suggested sanding them a little, but I'm not convinced that it will work.

Anyone figured out a good way to prep them before painting?

  • Paint them with primer first, or lightly sand the surface.

I had thought about the primer but haven't bought it yet.  Thanks for the suggestion!  We'll also experiment with sanding.

  • I am actually really glad you posted this because I am having the same issue and I put them aside a while ago because I was getting annoyed and then I forgot about them!  Looks like i'll be breaking them out this weekend, sanding, and priming. Smile
